Dryer wont start.

Electric dryer no start does nothing

Check dryer Terminal block prongs both outside prongs should give combined 220, and 110 each if u check 1 outside & 1 center (ground) prong. Also check house electrical outlet for full voltage.

CHECK THERMAL SHUT OFF THERMOSTAT USUALLY LOCATED ON THE BLOWER. for OHMS or resistance with a meter. Should show a closed circuit. Ohms WHEN THIS FUSE BLOWS IT WILL SHUT DOWN EVERYTHING.

NEXT Test the PUSH start switch with meter for OHMS. Should show OHMS when pushed in or on start, and no ohms or infinity when in off position.

If you hear a humming/clicking sound from motor area you more than likely have a bad motor.
Try this test out to see if u have weak windings or relay/capacitor on motor.
Open the dryer door and turn by hand the drum while machine is on ON position. And you or someone else presses the door engagement switch in. If it starts up then u have bad windings

Another thing to check is the belt safety switch. With a multi meter.
Especially if u just replaced the belt. The belt safety switch is attached to the Tensioner and motor. IT LOOKS LIKE A DOOR SWITCH SOMEWHAT a little black pc of plastic with 2 prongs going into it. Sits at bottom of motor. Under the Tensioner. Attach meter clips to the 2 prongs on switch, Then when the little white push button is pressed in it should show continuity and none when released.

Lastly check ur DOOR SWITCH for continuity with a meter when the button is pushed in the (on/Door closed position,) it may have gone bad.

The first thing to check is the door switch. It is a pretty common failure I am running into lately.
Post back with any questions.

When pushing the start button the dryer makes a buzz sound but nothing happens. If the belt was broken I should hear the motor running. The dryer is 18 months old and gets normal use for a small family. I...

Most likely the motor. If you have a second set of hands, you can try and hand start it. Open the door, hold in the door switch (or tape it, if you don't have anyone to help), press the start button, and then grab one of the drum fins, and spin the drum counterclockwise and see if it takes off.

My Maytag gas-electric dryer just developed a problem. You can't 'start' it. When you hit the Start button, it clicks on only for the time you are holding it In. When you release it, the dryer...

All I can tell you is that usually when you have to hold the push to start switch has to do with a relay or the motor itself. Some push to start switches have a relay incorporated. I would first check to see if your machine has a belt safety switch, either belt is broken or the switch is bad/tripped or not aligned with the idler pulley correctly, it will be located on the motor and have two little buttons on it, one is a reset the other is to trip it. Hope this helped Tim

I have a Bosch 500 plus model. I was drying a blanket by itself when the dryer just shut off. The blanket was in a ball. I spread it out and turned the dryer back on and it wouldn't start. No error codes...

The motor tripped..The wiring diagram for the dryer is inside the back cover tie-wrapped to the frame as it sounds like the motor has a trip on it:
To reset the switch unplug the dryer, remove the power cable and back cover completely. two screws holding back cover are under the top cover which is held on with two screws at the rear. Remove the screws then pull top cover back and then lift it off. Remove last two screws and take off the full back cover . On the front of the motor you should see two white wires going into the safety switch for the belt breaking. Push the button on the left to reset the switch (you probably will hear a click) Do not push the right button as that is what got tripped originally . Good Luck Tim

Dryer won't run

Its time to call the repairman. If its the motor humming its either bad or the dryer is froze up and unable to turn causing the motor to hum. Eventually it will trip the breaker.

THERE IS A SMALL RELAY THAT THAT BUTTON ACTIVATES ... THE RELAY SOUNDS LIKE IT IS BAD. BEFORE REPAIRING I WOULD HAVE A "FIXED-FEE" DIAGNOSTIC TEST DONE. USUALLY 30-50 DOLLARS. THEN THERE IS THE REPAIR COST. IS IT WORTH IT?
