WRONG CARTRIDGE and Printhead does not move MP780

I have a wrong cartridge error. However, I cannot access the printhead since it does not move when I open the cover. The printhead remains stucked in the right corner. BTY, I'm not using OEM cartidges, just cheaper replacements. Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Thanks for your input Frank. I tried moving the printhead while it's off (both plugged and unplugged) and did not move. I did not want to force it more since I've given a good force on it that I may damage something. I also tried pressing the sensor on the right side and did not work either. Thanks

Your printer ink cartridge can not access (move to middle) when you open up the cover, you may try
1) try to open right side cover you move the cartridge by hand (power off) to middle position, then take out the cartridge and reinstall it then power on, the cartridge moving right, you may open up the cover again if the cartridge go back the middle position which means your printer works normal. still stop moving go next
2) check the cartridge initcial sensor at righe side, the cartridge moving to the end of right should be touch this sensor, find out it and check there is good touch (click) by the cartridge body. adjust the sensor position maybe needed.
3) cartridge is stucked sometime also check the cartridge moving rail hard moving, need to drop oil to lubricate.

printhead seat at parking lot, there is a pump cap which will go down when power on (you can see from opened righe cover), there are three situation: 1) you can see the pump cap go down then printhead can moving to left itself (this is normal case) 2) you can see the pump cap go down but printhead can not moving itself 3) you can see the pump cap can not go down and no any printhead moving itself .

    you may try

    1) to moving printhead when 2) is occured, and check printhead drive bell and motor gear works status.

    2) check pump cap moving drive if 3) is occured. (pump locked the printhead you can not moving anyway)

    is this helpful feedback please.

I have just changed all my cartridges and they are genuine Canon ones. I am getting WRONG CARTRIDGE message on my printer. Please help. thank you

Hi!

The printer reads the printhead as a cartridge too and the error is referring to the printhead that's faulty and needs replacement! It is an expensive part but can be replaced!Contact your local canon dealer and ask them for a quote on the printhead!

Good Luck!

Will not print-keeps coming up with "wrong cartridge"

Wrong cartridge on a Canon means the printhead is bad, not the inks. You need a new printhead

Turn off the printer, and unplug the power cord. Remove the cartridges, then the printhead unit, clean the printhead in look warm water GENTLY. Dry completely, clean the contacts with an eraser GENTLY. wipe contacts with tissue, then re-install back into the printer, add the cartridges, so an alignment and a clean, then print.

Got "wrong cartridge" error while attempting to print. Removed & reset all ink cartridges, still same error. Removed inks & print head, immediately lost power. Unplugged, waited, put everything...

It's a bad printhead, when it is removed, power should come back, but you need a new printhead. Wrong cartridge means the printhead is bad.

How do I remove printhead?

same as when you change ink tanks...
1.follow the same procedure you use to change ink tanks/cartridges to remove the current ink tanks
2.remove all ink tanks/cartridges
3.the printhead is what the ink tanks/cartridges sit in, the furthest half of the part the ink tanks/cartridges sit on is the removable part/printhead, it is loose so you can simply reach in and carefully pull it out.

Receiving message stating "wrong cartridge"

Overnight I started getting the "wrong cartridge" message on my Canon MP780. I use only OEM cartridges. As the Canon website suggested, I replaced the printhead with a new one (Empire Office Machines for $48.25 plus shipping) and it works great. Prints better than ever. Easy fix for my machine. I did read that using refills can cause more problems than just the printhead.
