I am replacing natural gas furnace and humidifier for my house. I got estimate for this from local company. What I am wandering about is that this furnace has variable speed motor that runs all the time. Because humidifier usually works the same time as motor is running, it means that my humidifier will run all the time. Q: Are there on the market special humidifiers that are specifically designed to work with such furnaces?
P.S. I contacted aprilaire and they told me that their humidifier will work in such setup, just I have to use hot water for humidifier. But I am not sure at this point if this would be efficient setup.
Carrier Infinity 96... Carrier's MVP furnace. variable speed blower - quiet and reliable. circuit board controls humidifier power (24VAC), whether it be a "Carrier" or "AprilAire" brand
Carrier furnaces have a humidifier "tab" on their boards, eliminating the need for a secondary power source. The humidifier low voltage power is controlled by the circuit board on the furnace. It will not "run all the time."
This depends on what humidifier you are getting. The "basic" comes with a cheap humidistat which can can be used to control the humidity. OR You can have a Carrier Thermidistat installed, which comes with an outdoor sensor to control the humidifier without the need for a seperate humidistat. The same holds true if a Carrier Infinity Control is installed. OR You can have either a Carrier or an AprilAire humidifier that has an outdoor sensor included with a special humidistat that controls the humidity more "smartly" in your home.
Hot water works best for evaporative-type humidifiers, no matter what "brand name" they are. Since this allows for better and quicker humidification, it reduces the amount of water required to add humidity in your home (less drains out since more is added to the air). This reduces your water bill.
you're welcome.
peace, -Gate

'just I have to use hot water for humidifier. But I am not sure at this point if this would be efficient setup.'
ME: Using hot water for the humidifier instead of cold ,increases the evaporation capacity of the APrilaire . It will obviously cost you a bit more in energy because your water heater will be running a bit more often. What i would do, is , plumb cold water to the humidifier and see how it works---if you find your house lacks humidity, then switch it over to using hot water. All it takes is another saddle valve...IF local codes allow. SOme towns by me, dont allow humidifer saddle valves.

The humidifier is turned on and off via the humidifiers humidistat ; the blower running only 'enables' the humidifier to run IF humidity is being called for.
Therefore, your APrilaire is compatible with a variable speed furnace.
