Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

Garage door will not close using remote unit.

Since it has snowed and become extremely cold out garage door opener will not close from the remote unit. We can close the door by holding the button on the electric closer until it goes all the way down. We can reopen the door from the remote unit when we return home. I cannot see any items in the line of the sensors. Are the sensors out of alignment?

I have the same issue, however it also involves the hard-wire controller. I believe that one of the sensors has mositure in it.

This has been happening whenever there is a change in the weather.

How can I remove the moisture from the sensor?

Your garage door opens when you return home because the battery in it gets warm from your car heating the cab, batteries go into a sort of dormancy if they are refrigerated, like when your car cranks slowly and takes longer to start when its cold. thats why people keep batteries in their refrigerators to keep them from self discharging over time, it slows down the molecules in the battery itself, slowing down current, try taking your opener indide with you at night and bring it in with you in the morning and try it.

My garage door will only open half way. It appears to be getting stuck when it is opening.

If you haven't gotten your issue fixed yet... I had the same problem (stopped opening half way when using the remote, went down fine, could lift/close manually fine as well) and this happened on our first cold weather day of the year which was very telling. Anyhow, there are two gauges/dials on your garage door opener unit itself (above, where the light is) which controls how much torque/strength your door uses to open or shut through resistance. I turned mine up some and it now works fine; what likely happened was that the metal tracks or the wood frame condensed in the cold and was providing just enough resistance to stop it when opening - as they have a security device built in to stop if they meet any resistance. Hopefully this helps!

Garage door only closes halfway

If the main light is flashing 10 times when the door reverses when closing it is a door sensor problem. You can override this with the door control but not with a remote. Make sure the door sensors are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is on and not flickering.

I have a 1/2 hp Craftsman GDO. It intermittently works. When it does not work, to get the door to open or close, I need to push the remote button several times to open or close it all the way. At times it...

On the rear of the motor unit you will find the up and down force adjustments. Increase these just about 1/4 turn and try. Make sure the tracks have not been lubricated at some time with grease. With the cold weather the grease becomes thick. The tracks should never be greased.

My remote intermittenly opens/closes the garage door

You can find a free manual for your door opener at manualsonline .com You might want to look at how to program it and change the unit to a different frequency. You can sometimes get better response and eliminate interference. Also make sure your battery contacts in the remote are clean.

Remote will not open or close door when temperature is cold.

if this is an outside remote the best you could do is maybe put someting to insulate the remote if it is in your car don't leave it on the visor put it in the glove box or maybe the center console it is obvious that expansion/contraction physics are playing a part

Garage door won't close by remote in cold weather

There are ususally two adjustments on garage door openers...
One is for the pressure and the other is for the travel. Assuming that the travel adjustment is properly adjusted...

On a cold day things are a little tighter and it "wants" a little more downwards pressure to complete its cycle. Sorta like me in the morning -- I need a little coffee to get going on a cold morning.

Adjust the down pressure/force just enough to make the unit close properly. Do not over adjust the down pressure or you will find it won't stay closed. Sometimes the manufacturer doesn't make it too clear where this adjustment is, but you should be able to find it if you look around.

I have seen units that were installed for years all of a sudden need a little tweak of this adjustment.

Good luck
