Hi Nicholas,
What OS are you using? I looked on the manufacturers site and some forums, here's what i found..
From Manufacturer:
Requires a personal computer with Windows XP (Professional, Home, or Media Center Edition)
If you're having trouble connecting it, Try holding the VOLUME BUTTON down for 3 seconds to make it discoverable.
If you have anymore info, just reply back and i'll try my best to help you out.
Please Rate if this helped you, and have a Great day!
Thanks,
Gary

How to add an exception to your Windows Firewall - XP, Vista and 7

Windows Firewall protects your computer by blocking communications (i.e., bugs and malicious software) attempting to connect to your computer. Sometimes, Windows Firewall will block a program that you use from connecting to the Internet. If you are experiencing this problem, but you are still able to browse the Web (demonstrating that it's not a general problem with your Internet connection), you can add a Windows Firewall exception for the program that's having problems. This will allow you to use that program without Windows Firewall blocking it.

Setup Steps - Windows XP

  1. Click Start. Click All Programs and find the program that you want to add an exception for. Then right-click the program and click Properties.

  1. On Shortcut tab in the Properties dialog box, right-click the Target box, and then click Copy.

  1. Click Cancel to close the Properties dialog box.

  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

  1. Click Open.

  1. Click OK.

I hope your laptop purchase comes with a warranty. You may need to bring your laptop to the nearest Compaq service center.

I have had spooler problems and lost the HP Solutions Center.

Hi,
I'm not sure exactly what you have tried yet, but maybe type in Services in the Vista search box and open Services. Scroll down to Print Spooler and right click on it. Restart the Spooler Service.

Also, many people have had scanning problems when using all-in-one software in Vista. I usually recommend this:

The all in one solution software you used in XP doesn't work fully with Vista.

But you can still scan and copy by using Windows Photo Gallery.

1. Click on files tab at the top in Window Photo Gallery.
2. Click on import from camera or scanner.
3. Highlight your scanner icon (eg HP C3180) then click import.
4. New scan window will popup, now you can preview or scan using this basic looking Vista utility.

Hope that helps.

Quick Router setup Wizard

Hi There!!

As is understand you are tyring to setup your wireless router to your laptop. However the cd does not work.

You could try these steps,
There is no problem if you are using XP media center. Please configure your router to the laptop that was last connected to the internet modem. You can also use the ethernet port on the modem directly connected to the WAN port of the wireless router. Then turrn on the Modem and the wireless router. Try to minimize the distance between the wireless router and all the laptops to be in the range of 1-30 meters.

Once you power on the modem, router and laptop, see that all the lights on the router are ON.i.e power, link, wan and lan light the port that is connected to your computer. Please verify your connections if the lights are not ON.

Now connect your laptop to the LAN port of the wireless router and see that your laptop IP address lies in the subnet of 192.168.0.xxx [where xxx is between 2 to 254].This information you can see in your network connections TCP/IP settings. The other best thing that you can do is set your computer IP Address to automatic.

Now open a web browser and type http://192.168.0.1 and press Enter. Once the login page appears enter the username as admin and leave the password as blank click enter.
The click the Advanced button and then Advanced Network. Uncheck the Enable UPnP check box, then click save setting. Now reboot your computer and router.

Network controller driver

hi Sam9,

According to the motherboard specification page at HP http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00297771&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=482528

the HP M7071 has an integrated Realtek RTL8101L network controller.
The driver for this NIC can be found at
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false&Langid=1&Level=5&PFid=6&PNid=6

You must download the version of the driver which is designed for the operating system (OS) which you are running on the M7071.

If you haven't changed the OS, Windows XP Media Center Edition should be the OS you are using and the "Auto installation program (support WinXP 64/Win98SE/WinME/Win2K/WinXP ver.681))(Submission ID: 1278018)" should be the driver you must download and install.

Hope you find this info helpful and thanks for using the FixYa service
Kind regards

Problem with wired LAN connection on HP DV 6000

I am on an HP desktop at this time and there is the ability to create install cds from a recovery partition (check for menu items I believe might be in the HP folder) and to reinstall back to the factory is a ansl a menu option as well as a boot option I believe. BEWARE OF THESE RESTORE OPTIONS BECAUSE YOU MAY WELL LOSE ANY PROGRAMS AND DATA ADDED TO THE MACHINE SINCE YOU GOT IT. Always have a backup so you can retrieve your data and be prepared with your application CDs to reinstall, if necessary.

Can't add new PC to extant WEP 128 network

If your system is encrypted you will need to set it up in xp before you open the media centre as if i remember there is no option to enter a password for WEP. Just open the network card properties and select the TCP/IP line then properties ans select obtain ip address automatically. Then when network is detected enter the WEP password numbers.
