Question about Slant Fin GF-210W 2 Gallon Humidifier

Humidifier says reserve tank is empty when it's not.

I have a SlantFin GF-211D humidifier which was purchased in 2006. It has been working well until this year. After I fill the reserve tank and plug it in, it runs for about 1/2 hr to 45 mins then the red light comes on telling me that the cold water reservoir is empty even though the reserve tank is still almost completely filled with water. I cleaned the unit again with vinegar as the instructions recommend, and the same thing happens. If I lift the reserve tank, you can see and hear the water running into the cold water reservoir. The unit will run a few minutes again and I will get the same message. Do you think it is a simple fix of replacing the tank cap & gasket, or is the machine wearing out and it's time to purchase anew? I live in the northeast and it is only used in the winter. I also notice that this model doesn't seem to be available anymore.

With this model it has not only been discontinued and difficult to find repair and replacement parts. I would suggest a new product. I wish that even in theses times I had more encourageing news because most of the time if its broke fix it..but this time, It's time to go shopping, also the company has sold twice, and now goes under two sub names. My humidifier which is suppose to mist seems to only have the fan blowing. No mist. Lost the manuel and the machine was purchased in feb of 11. What is the solution?


It may have a scale and calcium build up. Particularly, if you use well water.

To clean it, unplug the unit and empty in water that is in the tank. Mix a 50/50 solution of White Vinegar and Bottled Distilled Water (enough to fill the tank. Pour the solution in the tank and allow it to set for 2 hours. Then turn the humidifier ON and place you hand in front of the misting nozzle , to feel if it's working. If it is, allow it to run until the tank is 3/4's empty, Empty te tank of the remaining solution and refill the tank with more Bottled Distilled Water and run for an hour. This will flush the 50/50 solution out of the system. It it wasn't working when you first tested it, allow it to set over night and try again the next morning.

In the future, use Bottled Distilled Water rather than tap water.

95% of the time, this will solve the problem. I hope this helped you. Please let me know.

FILLING THE WATER TANKS
1. Before filling the water tanks, push the POWER switch to the “OFF” position and
unplug unit. Refer to cleaning instructions.
2. Remove water tanks from base, turn each tank upside down and remove tank cap
by turning counterclockwise. Fill tank with clean cold tap water.
Replace the tank cap by turning clockwise. Tighten firmly.
3. Carefully pick up tank, since it will be heavy when full, and slippery if wet.
4. Place water tanks on base. Make sure tanks are properly placed, otherwise, the
humidifier will not work correctly.

Waters tanks never empty


Either you have no wick/filters or they are installed incorrectly. Tanks should empty within hours.

Humidifier's reset light flashes on and off


Most likely it is the water sensing transistor (C1815) in the unit. This can be replaced but it would have to be by someone who knows how to repair electronic instruments. The cross for the C1815 transistor is NTE85 and sells for about $1.50.

Er3--is this an error message?


This sounds like the float switch may be stuck - giving an error message - usually these are not too hard to unstick - it is often a cleaning issue - the manual should show you where the float switch is and how to check it, but if the error message is not listed in the manual, if you are sure it is the correct manual then I would expect it to be a technicians job, else they would list the error message. Left Tank won't empty


Eureka! Solved my "left bottle not emptying" problem. The problem was not with the bottle but that the top of unit which houses the on/off switch was not seated properly. It takes only a very slight difference in water level for the float to activate the switch, therefore if the top is raised even 1/4" the unit will shut off before the water level is low enough to allow the left bottle to drain.
