How to install a wireless router

Judy, your not giving use much info but every router I've installed have very easy instructions but here is how I install. I recommend NOT using wifi until you have everything setup.

1) turn off your internet provider's internet box. You did not tell us if this is a replacement wifi router of not. If replacement then just swap the cables. If new then look at the NetGear and you will see color coded rj-45 (look like fat telephone plugs) femal connectors.

2) the output of the internet providers box goes into the WAN/Internet/World symbol plug. You then should have atleast 4 other LAN connections. Plug your PC into one of these (make sure it's off as well)

3) So everything should be powered off.

4) Turn on your internet provider's box, wait 3-4 minutes.
5) Turn on your newt net gear box, wait 3-4 minutes
6) Turn on your PC that is connected to the netgear.
7) Open the browser of your choice (IE, Chrome, Firefox, etc)
8) In the box where you normally type in www.thewebsiteofyourchoice.com you would type in 192.168.1.1.
No www, no .com or anything, just the numbers and enter. Then the Netgear admin page will display. It will normally asked for a password. admin paswword is typical. Some routers have the password on the bottom of the box.
9) Usually you will need to do a firmware update.
10) then setup the wifi. No idea if this is a single for dual band wifi router.

How to create a password?

ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/wgr614_install_guide.pdf

That is the installation guide for the WGR614. Use step 2 to login to your router. It assumes everything is still set to the defaults. Netgear also has a video guide of installing and configuring the router, which should contain the answer to your question: http://support.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12873

Lost or Unable to use Router Configuration CD NETGEAR does not replace lost or broken CDs because the Smart Wizard installation and configuration utility on the CD is already built into your router management software. There is no need to download anything to replace the CD - everything you need is in your router. This is true even if:
  • the CD that shipped with the router has been lost or cannot be read, or
  • errors occur when running the configuration program, or
  • the router is not connected to a computer using the Windows operating system.

To access the Smart Wizard installation and configuration program on your router:
  1. Connect your router to a computer by plugging one end of an Ethernet Cable into any of the four LAN ports on the back of your router.
  2. Log in to your NETGEAR router by browsing to http://www.routerlogin.net or http://www.routerlogin.com. Enter the username (admin) and password. By default, the password is password or 1234 unless it has already been changed.
  3. To install your router, simply click on the "Setup Wizard" link at the top of the left-hand navigation menu once you are logged into your router.
A video walk-through of installing and configuring your router using the Smart Wizard is available at http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12873.

When im installing the game .. it says that Setup was unable to install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1? .. can you help me how to solve this problem .. so that i can play the game NBA 2k10 .. please......

Hi,

Download .net framework offline from the link below and try to install it first and then try to install the game.

To download .net framework 1.1

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=262D25E3-F589-4842-8157-034D1E7CF3A3&displaylang=en

In case if the game or .net framework doesnt install properly then use the .net cleanup utility and clean all the installed .net framework versions.

Download the .net cleanup utility from the link below:

http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/NET-Framework-Cleanup-Tool-Download-116561.html

Click on
Softpedia Secure Download (US) [ZIP]
to download the file.

once all the cleanup is done try installing the game again.

OK. First, that dg836gt_1_02_09.img file does not seem to be a firmware file. You need to get a .zip file or a .bin file to upgrade the firmware. Check Netgear's website for the current firmware. If it is a .zip file, then you need to extract the .bin file from the .zip file with winzip software. Then, log into your router with Internet Explorer by typing it the routers IP address in the address bar like this http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. Enter user name and password. Look for a tab that states software update. Browse for the .bin file you downloaded or extracted from the .zip and click update.
