I have a Maytag side-by-side MSD2756GEB that quit cooling.
Everything in freezer thawed, and refrigerator side is no longer cold. There is also a smell coming from behind fridge that is like something in compressor unit(?) has burned out. Obviously, I need a repair man. Any suggestions as to what may actually be the culprit that needs repair?

either the ptc overload relay on the compressor is bad and the compressors not operating to cool the unit or the evaporator coil behind the freezers inside wall is iced up and cant let cold air out due to this blockagethen its a defrost heater/thermostat on the evaporator coil issue
your defrost heater around the coils is open and can no longer heat,or the adaptive defrost timer or defrost thermistor are defective located in the refrige control panel behind the temp controls and the thermistor is located on the defrost heater assy
It's possible that the Adaptive Defrost Control part number 61005988 has your compressor shut down. It is also possible the temperature control is defective. Jumping the 2 wires behind the control will answer that. And its also possible that the start capacitor, start relay and overload has failed on the compressor. I would like you to unplug and examine the ADC and also need to pull away from wall and remove the cover over the compressor so you can feel the top of compressor. Is it warm, cool or too hot to keep your hand there? Sea Breeze
Possible defrost problem. If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer
are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of
cold air.Since you've already replaced the motherboard Checkdefrost heater, defrost thermostat How to check
after removing all of the freezer racks and shelf pull the 4 1/4 inch screws out at the bottom back panel of the freezer. pull the 2 panels off and slide them out strait down to the floor of the freezer. if your freezer coils are full of snow and ice then the fan cant pull any cold air up into the refrigerator.your problem is probably th defrost adaptive timer. if the heater ohms out at around 20 to 30 ohms it is ok. next ohm the 2 white wires at the plug this is checking the thermostat it shoud ohm out at aproximately 240 k ohms if those 2 things check out the problem is the adaptive defrost timer it is in the ceiling behind the temperature controls on yhe right side.
di you see or hear the fan running fan might be stuck check that out no fan no circulating cold air you may have problem with the heating element what make frost free inside you should melt all the ice inside around the damper check if you see broken glass the little heating element if it not broken and listen for that important fan if it running check it uot thank for using fixya pierre
