NEED SONY MDS-S707 SERVICE MANUAL TO FIX NON-RECORDING FUNCTION
I need the settings for SONY MDS-S707 service manual so as to check settings of all the TEST MODE settings. The problem started when I put MD disc in the wrong way . . I got the MD out but since the the unit will not RECORD . . it plays previous recording OK but when I try to record the meters indicate that signal is going going into it . . . but on play back the counter moves 1 second every 20 or so seconds as if it is trying to read but onlt VERY SLOWLY. Can anyone help me with this ? I would be very grateful for any assistance. Many thanks in anticipation Chuffed

It would be a lot simpler to get the remote. Check minidisc.org to find the one you need (most MD Sony MD Decks will do most functions with any sony MD remote) the catch is you need the exact one for stuff like this. You can also check the manual there to try and find a work around but I think you'll need the remote.
Almost any Sony MD remote is available on eBay, the parts houses still carry them but they can ask a lot for them. I recently found the exact remote for my 5CD-->MD deck for $1.99 at a resale ship, it would have been $65. at the parts house.
You may have the disc shutter closed preventing recording. You should never interrupt the recorder when it is trying to write to disc, you probably corrupted the table of contents (TOC) on the disc and need to reformat it to use it again. If your deck is older you may have worn out the recording heads preventing it from writing to the disc in the worst case.
Inserting blank spaces while recording to tape (Auto Space) The Auto Space Function inserts a 3-second blank space between each track while recording from MDs to tapes, allowing you to use the AMS function during later playback. Press A.SPACE repeatedly until “A.SPACE” appears in the display. To cancel Auto Space Press A.SPACE repeatedly until “A.SPACE” disappears. Note If the Auto Space Function is on while recording a selection containing multiple track numbers, (for example, a medley or symphony), blank spaces will be inserted within the selection whenever the track number changes.
Minidisk systems encode music diffferently than CD's do. The instruction manual for your model can be found at http://www.minidisc.org/sony_mdse10_manual.pdf you will need to reference page 18 for instructions and trouble shooting.
