Question about Apple iPhone Smartphone

Iphone touchscreen not working at certain points

I was downloading some sw this evening and after restarting it to allow the new sw to take effect I am having some serious issues with the screen. I'm certain its software related and not the screen because the screen works just fine when at the unlock screen and the home screen, but as soon as I open any apps it will not respond at all... correction the very top right hand of the screen still seems to get some small input if I tap at it repeatedly (clear pulled up a window in SMS, edit worked in mail, and about popped up a window in installer) the pop ups will not respond unless its on the start screen and its warning me that there is low battery, and when I try to put it into sleep the screen only dims and the wallpaper is still visable as is the unlock slider and the header the clock sits in, but the clock is not present at this point.

so I know that the screen is responsive due to the fact that the phone responds when at the home screen without any issues
I know that whatever is cutting the screens input when the app is opened and only then because it will still acknowledge a small portion of the screen even then, albeit a part of the screen thats totally useless at the moment...

I have tried to restart the phone multiple times and get a series of lines that pops on the loading screen one long time (aprox 3 secs) then flashes between the apple logo to the lines in short bursts (1 sec each) then it loads and tries to go to sleep but only dims...
I cannot restore the phone because I bought it unlocked and can't get it to recognize in iTunes (I'm guessing the phone is attached to the last owner still) and since its unlocked and possibly even jailbroken I don't know about taking it to the apple store to get it fixed... any help is very appreciated...

Thank you for your advice, but my major issues with returning it to factory settings is that I'm fairly certain that Itunes will not recognize the phone on this computer, and I am a on T-mobile, so if returned to factory settings won't that mean that the phone will no longer work with my sim card thereby leaving me with a working yet non functional iphone still... if I could just get the crack program off installer I'd try this in a heart beat, but without the ability to hook it into the computer directly to load the needed software and with the phone unwilling to work with my simcard in its factory state, I'd be in a new world of issues that would technically be worse than now, considering that I can still get calls as it is

if there is any assurance that I can get the phone to be acknowledged by the system when I reset, then I believe I can find the solution but without knowing, I can't justify the risk of losing all communications in order to perform trial and error (my phone is my only source of contact with my wife and son for the next two weeks till I get home)

Iphone touch screen is not working. Restored the phone from backup succesfully, but screen still doesn't work. Phone receives calls, etc., but can't unlock or answer calls because screen doesn't respond to...

Even though the iPhonemag-glass_10x10.gif is a device that is extremely convenient to have, it still can cause frustrations. Specifically, there may be times when the touch screen does not work properly.

There are various problems the iPhone touch screen could encounter. Although there are times when the screen does not work altogether, there are other situations when certain portions of the screen work and others don't. Of course, it is possible that the entire screen works, but is simply slow. Regardless of the exact problem, there are ways to troubleshoot the iPhone to diagnose the real problem.
  1. tep 1 Remove the wiping cloth that came in the small black envelope along with the iPhone. Wipe the smudges or dust off the screen with this cloth. It is best to wipe in a circular motion.
  2. Step 2 Do not put lotion on your hands and do not touch the screen if your hands are wet. Any kind of moisture can affect the way the touchscreen operates. Moisture sometimes slows the response time from the screen to the operating systemmag-glass_10x10.gif.
  3. Step 3 Check for a protective sheet on the screen. If there is some kind of a film or sheet on the touchscreen, the screen is likely not able to react to all of the sensitivities of the touch of a finger as it normally would.
  4. Step 4 If there is an application open and the touchscreen seems to not be working, simply close the application and retry it. A frozen application can usually be closed by pressing and holding on the circular button located just below the touchscreen.
  5. Step 5 Press and hold the home button as well as the reset button on the top of the phone to turn the iPhone off. A red slider will appear. Slide it to the right to turn the phone off. Press again on the "Reset" button on the top to turn the phone back on.
  6. Step 6 Completely reset the iPhone by holding the "Home" button and the "Reset" button for a full 10 seconds until the phone resets and the Apple logo appears on the phone.
    • If you are using the iPhone in cold weather and wearing gloves, the iPhone will not react to the gloves as it will to the touch of a finger.
    • If the touchscreen is dirty, do not run the iPhone under water. Doing this will likely ruin the phone, but even if it doesn't, it will possibly make the phone run slower.

The touch screen on my iphone 3g wont work

This is what you should do:
Press and hold both the power and the home button until the Apple logo comes up. Release the buttons at that point.
That way, you will force restart your device and it should respond to your touch.

Iphone keypad not working

First try a hard reset. Hold down the power and home button simultaneously for 10 seconds until the iPhone reboots.
If that doesn't work you need a new digitizer. If it's a 3G I would advise replacing the digitizer. If it's a 2G I would not advise replacing the digitizer b/c you would have to replace the LCD, Digitizer, and the Glass Panel and the cost would exceed $100.
You could also consider selling your iPhone AS IS for parts or repair on eBay, Craigslist, BuyMyTronics.com or I could make you an offer.
Hope this helps, Rate me please!

1. The G1's Not a Real Media Player ... Yet
The iPhone doesn't just play back video—it's one of the best (and best-looking) portable media players on the market. While we'll certainly see developers making video playback programs for the G1, there are none built into it. But Apple beware: If there's one thing the open-source development community loves, it is support for a wide range of video formats and codecs. All it will take is one robust mobile playback program (mobile VLC, perchance?) to make users remember just how much they hate converting videos into MP4 so they'll play on an iPhone.

2. The iPhone is Thinner
The G1's slide-out keyboard may be useful, but it comes at a price: The G1 takes us back to the pocket-bulging smartphones of yesteryear, while the iPhone is svelte enough to fit in the front pocket of your Levis.

3. No Multitouch
The G1 uses a capacitive touchscreen. This is the same highly sensitive type of screen found on the iPhone (most touchscreen phones use mostly inferior resistive touchscreens), and should allow the G1 to compete when it comes to touch sensitivity. But the G1 does not have the iPhone's multitouch capability. While the G1 attempts to make up for it by utilizing "long-touches" to bring up deep menus, it loses out on the huge amount of functionality (and coolness) that comes from the iPhone's ability to sense two fingers at once.

4. Terrible Headphone Jack
The iPhone proved that people were willing to listen to music on their cellphones. Still, most manufacturers are reluctant to put a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack on their phones, forcing customers instead to use bulky adaptors or subpar bundled headphones. The 3G iPhone bucked that trend (the original had an annoying recessed headphone jack that could only take specially made headphones), but the G1 relies on an irritating proprietary plug. To make things work, early indications are that adaptors won't even be available when the phone first hits shelves, making the bundled headphones the only choice.

5. Internal Memory
The iPhone currently comes in 8 GB and 16 GB varieties, and we'll likely see a 32 GB version before long. The G1 has just 192 MB of onboard memory, and comes with a 1 GB micro-SD card. That's not really enough memory for a phone that's supposed to be full of music and downloaded applications. If you want an 8 GB G1, you'll have to purchase an 8 GB micro-SD card, which will push the price of the phone from $179 above the iPhone's $199 price tag. If T-Mobile, Google and HTC really expect us to use the G1 as a mobile computer, they'll need to give us more memory.

Iphone touchscreen not working:(

I think my solution for my Viewty will work for the iPhone

I found a solution for the LG KU990 Viewty touchscreen not responding problem. After thinking about twisting my phone, I came up with another solution which actually works every time. The touchscreen works via layers of plastic that when contact is made, a signal is triggered from the coordinates of the contact. However, when the phone has pressure, these layers of plastic stick together somehow. So, to fix it.... Get a small strip of adhesive tape that will not leave a sticky residue on your screen. Apply that tape in several spots on the surface of the screen, and lift it away from the phone with light pressure. Repeat this in several areas of the screen. That's it. You're done. Your screen should function properly. Simply recalibrate the touchscreen at this point in your settings menu. I hope it helps everyone with any type of touchscreen. I know it helped me. The touchscreen phones are totally useless using only the hard keys!

Solution i tried on Unlocked 1.1.3 and 1.1.4 versions. Just follow the steps they have been explained really easy way. Dont think this is too hard. Just follow them it will work:

1) download WinSCP on your PC (google it) and run the application
2) download new general.plist file on laptop
3) download OpenSSH on your iphone (its not show on iphone but its there so dont worry)
4) connect the laptop and iphone through the same wireless network and both will have separate ipaddress.
5) write the ipaddress from the iphone (Settings>Wifi>network details to which you are connected to shows you the ipaddress)
6) Goto laptop on WinSCP type the ipaddress of the iphone in host name field and username:root and password: alpine and then hit Login.
7) it will open like an explorer view of your iphone files on laptop then click on root left side. Click Applications> preferences> replace the general.plist file with the one you downloaded. Done the major part.
8) unplug iphone click Settings> General>Touch and reduce the senstivity to 0. 0 gives you the highest touch sensitivity.
9) Now be happy it works....
