Ok. I have a friend on my list who has disappeared twice. I havent deleted him and i dont think he deleted me.... there are 700 people on my list and he is the only one gone. can this be due to a facebook problem/error?
The only other explanation is that we have a hacker who is getting in to one of our accounts and deleteing the other one. Is there any way of finding out who deleted who and when? This would be important because it is likely to have happened during a time frame when we were both out and in the same place.
It is possible your account(s) were hacked your friends account was possibly terminated or tghey deleted it. Contact support. :) If this doesn't help, let me know and I will see what I can do to help you more.

from the top right on your page click on Account, then move to edit friends.on the left side of the page click on friends, you will see picture and name of your friends, then click on x on the one you want delete and it will be deleted.ok
Go to you FB's Account Menu then select Edit friends and look for your friend or friends that really wanted to removed from your friendslist by simply hitting the remove icon on the right side of each friend.
Click on Account> Edit Friends Then click on "Friends" under "Lists" on the left side of the screen. It looks like your best bet is to just manually unfriend each of them by clicking on the "x" button to the right of their names, then click "remove" on the popup.
I don't think there's a way to delete all of them at once, unless you delete your account (Account> Account Settings> Deactivate account) and start over.
Got to "Account" on the top right of your Facebook page and
select "Edit friends". Click on "All connections" on the left navigation.
You will see the list of all your friends. To delete the one you do not
want anymore you just have to click on the cross icon that's on the same
line as the name (next to "add to list")--It's a delete icon. If you
mouse over it should actually say "Remove connection". Hope that helps.
