I have an 80 GB Zune (black) 2 days ago the Zune play/pause button was not working and then the Zune was only charging to half power, instead of full power. Then the charging was on and off. When it charges (when ther's no power left) you should see a black screen with a large lit battery and a lightning bolt symbol in the middle of it to let you know it's charging. But it kept going from that to a large battery with a red line at the bottom of it (that means it's not charging) and now the screen is just balck. I alternated between my ac adapter and the usb ports and nothing works the screen is still balck with no sign of charging. I went on Zune.net for help but not of their insructions helped at all. Can you please help me.
My 30G Brown Zune won't charge at all. Any Ideas?

hold the back button and the up button until you see the Zune logo then release. if this doesnt work then you are going to have to reset your Zune....however this will loose all the data on the zune so your music/movies will be completely gone. you are going to need to press and hold the back and up button until the zune logo appears then hold the back,play/pause, and the center button until you see "please wait"
Yes, it is a common problem for some of the Zune players. The charging unit in the player self might be broken.
Have you checked the charging cable? Something else you can try is to hold down the play/pause button for a while, this will restart the unit. If this does not work, click on the following link, where you will be directed to Microsoft's zune support page. They will be able to let you know where the nearest repair centre is located. http://www.zune.net/en-GB/
my 30gig was doing same thing i opened it up and one of cables just slipped out of port very simple to fix open you zune where the charger goes in there is a black cover remove this carefully then remove the 2 very small screws next use a very thin flat surface be very careful and you can see the edge where it seals just put you thin applient into the side and gently pull it up go all the way around once at top be gentle dont use the knife or whatever you used just slide it appart the back will come off then just reconnect cables good luck
now what you do is if the zune just has a black screen with a battery symbol and it stays that way forever when on the charger. you, take the zune off the charger and press the play/pause button and if it turns on for a second with the low battery symbol then turns off, your in luck, just hold the play/pause button for 10 - 20 minutes. the zune will have turned on and off alot agitating the battery. once you hold it for 10 - 20 minutes put it on the charger, then presto it works. let charge fully then die completly for every time you use it for a bout a month to let the battery get back into it's normal cycle. ~Dan herzberg~ Thank you*
after much research on this matter in the past few hours. To resolve this situation don't shut the zune down by holding play/pause button it does not shut down properly that way.
Hold down the down & back button down until shuts off....zune recommends as the best way to turn off your zune. Also if you are having problems holding charge, a lot of people replaced the original charge plug and found that it worked again. these cables usually become faulty from previous models and 30gigs. So buy a new cable & shut it down correctly.
Still no worky??? Call zune, within 1 year they will accept it for repairs. They may even send you a new refurbished zune...since they no longer are making the 30 gig...probably for those reasons.
I hope this advice not only helps you but myself. Who wants an expensive paperweight...not I!
