the usb cable is for the still images. if you want to transfer the videos you need a dv (firewire) cable. you need to check what type of connection your computer has if its a 4 or 6 pin connection. some computers dont have any. its usually labeled on the computer IEEE 1394 or just 1394. the camcorder has a 4 pin connection, so depending on computer you will need a 4-4 or 4-6 pin dv cable. then you can use windows movie maker to capture the video.
I disagree VERY much with Bubbabear64. I tried what he said and I had lots of problems. The computer wouldn't import and sometimes it wouldn't recognize the camera. I installed the 2 programs that came with the camera on the CD, and all of a sudden it worked great. So install the audio driver and the picture importer on the JVC disk that came with your camera.
Here is the issue. Connecting this camera to your PC via USB will only allow you to download the pictures that you have stored on the camera's SD card. To download video to your PC you will need to use a firewire to 4-pin DV cable. If you do not have the software from JVC, no worries as Movie Maker on Windows XP will import video from devices for you. Movie Maker in Vista will not allow importing video or capturing from devices at all, so you will need to get the JVC software if you are oin Vista.
