If you are using Roxio software it's not the cd writer, it's the software. If you use Roxio software you need to use the low speed cd-rw's (1x_4x) if says (4x-whatever, it won't work). Been there, done that. If you get ahold of na honest tech at Roxio, they will admit to this and that their software is not 100% .ISO compliant.

I know TDK has "high speed" drives which are meant for "high speed" CD-RW's (TDK VeloCD). I no longer have the packaging for either the drive or the CD's, but I believe TDK suggests using the "high speed" disks on the "high speed" drives.
Don't slam TDK though... it's an excellent product. :p
