Problems restoring my Toshiba L305 to factory settings

I'd doubt that the hard drive is bad. Most times the Factory Recover does not work especially from the discs.

Why not try reinstalling Windows, because you've probably wiped out your operating system by trying the recoveries. Look on the bottom of your laptop or inside the battery case for the Certificate of Authentication (COA) Sticker. It will tell you what verion of Windows you have and it will have your registered Product Key Code (series of 5 letters and numbers). If you don't have an operating system disk, then borrow one from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker. It has to be the same operating system that is on your COA sticker or it will not work and you won't be able to activate windows. If your COA says Windows Vista Home Premium, you can't use a Windows Vista Home Basic operating system disc.

Sometimes activation can be tricky so when you come to the part where it asks for the Product Key give it the key from the COA Sticker on the bottom of your laptop. Sometimes it will not want yours but want the key that came with the software you borrowed so if it is not on the packaging ask the person your borrowed from to give you the Product Key from their COA Sticker. Don't worry, theirs is theirs and yours is yours.

I bought a new hard drive for my dell. i need a copy of windows xp home edition that will work with my certificate of authenticity sticker.

Hi,

I see you have a new Hard Drive.

I also see that you need XP that will work with the Sticker you have the only way to do that is to call Microsoft so they can give you information on how to change the Product on the XP you have and be able to use the one on the sticker you have.

Even if you download any othe windows XP it will take the product key and let windows install but after 30 days it will all say that windows is not genuine in the end.

Calling Microsoft will be the best option for you regarding your query since they are the only once who can assist you in changin the product key of the XP you have and have it registered as the product key you have on your Authentic sticker.

I hope this explains everything, have a nice day.

Where i can find my 25 character product key number..!!?

That depends which key code you are looking for? If it is the product key code for software (like office or windows) it is usually located on a sticker inside the box it came in. Sometimes the key code is also located on a sticker on the back of the cd case that the software disk came in.

if you purchased a pc brand new and your looking for a key code number for software that it came with, you can usually find a copy of that number on a sticker on the bottom (if its a laptop) of the pc or on the back/side (if its a desktop).

The hard drive on my laptop is not working. I have been told i need a new hard drive. Windows 7 is on the broken hard drive. the new hard drive wont have windows 7 on it. The laptop doesnt have any...

If the company that made your laptop is replacing your hard drive, then they will reinstall the operating system for you. If not, things will be a bit more difficult.

Look on the bottom of your laptop. There may be a sticker that indicates what version of Windows your laptop has (had). If there is, look for something that looks like a product key on that sticker. As long as you are using the same laptop and only replacing the hard drive, that product key should still work if you re-install Windows. As for finding a disk, you will have to search around the internet for a Windows 7 installation disk. This should not cost nearly as much as buying a completely new operating system disk with the product key.

I have windows XP original CD, But I lost the product key how I will get it back ?

Unfortunately , I think you are out of luck. Microsoft sold you the package in a very elaborate boxed package. The package folder on the back had a orange Product Key label attached with a 25 digit/alpha code. It states on the back folder rigt below that sticker, "Don't Lose This Product Key!"

"You must use it every time you install this software. So be sure to store this folder in a safe place."

I know of no way of recovering this key as it is embedded in the code on the disk and is in coded form as to preclude a search. Each issue of the software has a unique Product Key and must be entered before the software will allow you to register and enter another code from Microsoft. This is Microsoft's method of preventing piracy.

Having trouble entering the product ID number for my compaq presario 1230 for Windows 98. it asks for 25 digits when is only 20 on the certificate of authenticit

Pleas ensure that you are using the correct product key for your system. Look on the bottom of the laptop for a sticker with your product key on it. If the sticker is there, then enter the key on that into your system.

If there is no sticker and you cannot find a 25-digit key with your computer's documentation, you will not be able to activate Windows. Consider trying to find an alternate copy of the Operating System, or if your finances allow, replacing the machine with something more recent.
