Question about Kenmore Dishwashers

1 Answer

Kenmore dishwasher, water not going through the jets

I have a 2 year old Kenmore Ultra Wash 1603. The dishwasher fills and drains, but it appears there is no water going through either the upper or lower jets. I have pulled off the water tube, the bottom arm, and the filter on the bottom of the dishwasher and checked all of these items. Is there a way I can check the pressure.

I want to thank everyone for all of the advice so far because of your help I was able to figure out how to take the dishwasher apart.

Thanks

When you hear the motor running during the wash cycle, check to see if the washer is actually draining instead of washing. this would indicate a stuck open drain valve. (the same motor/pump that washes the dishes, also drains the unit)

Hello,

very common issue on these units, the motor had failed, the motor did have a five yer warranty but we are beyond that.

You can purchase the part from the link below,

Water leaks from the bottom door

The gasket that surrounds the door will fix it. If that's what you ordered, it'll be taken care of upon installation.

Smelly dishes from Kenmore Ultra Wash

If you post the model number of your dishwasher plus its approximate age (in years) I can help more.

But the most common cause is a weakening pump motor. On many dishwashers, the wash pump motor is also the drain motor. Replacing that motor / pump assembly will solve the problem. While you are replacing the pump, check the heating element to confirm that it is not shorted out or broken.

For now, add a cap full of bleach to the water _after_ the initial dishwasher fill cycle ends and the wash cycle begins. White vinegar would also work, but this will not fix your problem.

Good Luck!

Kenmore Ultra Wash Dishwasher Problem

there is no real way of checking the keypad. Not with a meter but if you push normal wash for example and it does not respond this usually means that you have a bad keypad

Dishwasher leaves soap in dispenser.

Hi Dirty Dish gang.
After having 2 appliance repairmen here, I now have the latest scoop on our dishwasher problems, $200 later!
Los Angeles IS currently having hard water issues. Also, all the new cleaning gels etc. are actually a cause of our dishwasher problems.
So, here is what we need to do:
1. Use Cascade POWDER detergent only.  Make sure is is just "plain" no "scented" or "complete"  or gel, etc. (I have tried a phosphate free powder and gel and this is a cause of our problem as well!) 2. Use Jet Dry in the dispenser (set it to a 2-3 opening) 3. Make sure water is at least 120 degrees 4. Only run dishwasher on "normal" setting.  All others just run it longer, hence causing more water stains. 5. Do not pre-wash dishes! You can knock of chunks with a "non" soapy brush, but don't rinse (the oils actually help to clean the dishes) 6.  Do not wash sponges in dishwasher.
Acid Wash: The repairman just gave my washer an Acid Wash today. It says it is an acid derived from lemon, I got mine from Carters appliance in Torrance, CA for about $19. I am to run a normal cycle with the above mentioned Cascade after this "acid cycle" is finished.
If you are still having problems:
Monthly maintenance: Glass Magic: Buy a box of Glass Magic (near the Cascade)  Use 1 Tbsb in main detergent compartment of dishwasher along with the Cascade, till washer starts working again. White Vinegar: You can run an empty dishwasher with white vinegar once a month.  Fill a bowl with 2 cups vinegar and place on bottom rack.  Then run as a normal cycle...this allows vinegar to disperse slowly.
So far it seems to be working.  Good luck.

Water slowly filling cabinet when dishwasher is off.

either
leaking valve - to check, turn water off and see if it still happens
or
if appliance is plumbed in to a spigot on the sink trap, then when you empty sink, some of the water finds its way into the dishwasher via the drain hose. to cure, take the drain hose as high as possible under the sink in a swan neck

Make sure you run water in your sink until it is hot before you start the dishwasher. On the newer dishwashers they will fill and drain until the water is hot enough so it takes longer if it starts with cold water. Normal time for a basic wash could take about 45 min.
