Vertical gray stripe on left edge, all pics and text gave a blur
This monitor is 2 years old. In the last week or so the screen has developed a gray line about 1 inch wide along the left edge of the screen, and all pictures and lines of text appear as if they have a "ghost" image to the right and lines of text have a "tail" image leading off to the right. Is the screen going bad, or is there something I can do to make this go away?

Any vertical or horizontal line (any color any size) showing stable on the screen that is the hardware damage at the LCD panel back board ( call panel driver board) . it repair complicate but easy to do change LCD panel (common parts). you need find a PC service dealer to do so.

christian204, Your unit may be 5 -6 years old, and may have developed a problem with it's internal "switch-mode-power-supply" and will need good CCFL backlit lcd monitor tech to repair it. When strange and wierd things start to occur on lcd screens the first place to look would be the SMPS. 12fixlouie
Something in your system is just plain old broken. Try aoher monitor on your PC. If that solves the problem, the monitor was broken. If it doesn't, the graphics crd doesn't work anymore.
Either way, the broken part will need replacement, because computer components are way to omplicated to fix if they break like that. It could just be one out of a couple of billion connections that has burnt through.
Yeah, I have this exact same problem, except my mom slammed my laptop shut in frustration around half an hour ago, so that's why it's like this. The right half of my screen is black with two colorful stripes (mostly white), but the left half is visible. I've researched a bit and found out that this is because the LCD in your monitor has burnt out, and since you don't have a monitor to attach, the only thing you can do is to go to where you bought the laptop and either get it fixed for free or return it for a brand new one (if your warranty still stands). If not, you might as well get a new laptop. I think my warranty has expired, so I'll get a new laptop, hopefully.
Well... sure it fixable, but it is going to cost you a bundles... Since you own this monitor for about 10 yrs. It's time for you to give yourself a new LCD monitor for the Holidays... :) Have nice day!
mt, the 6 to 8 lines you were seeing were most likley the prelude to the end of the monitor. If the problem only occurs when the screen saver comes on then I could say the driver maybe being corrupted by a certain screensaver picture or program. When the monitor warms up to a certain temprature the electronics start to fail. You may want to turn off the monitor while your not right in front of it to cool it down and prolong its use.
