Question about Canon Rebel XT / EOS 350D Digital Camera

1 Answer

Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT will not connect to computer.

My Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT will not connect to my computer. I hook it up using my USB cable and turn it on, but it doesn't show up in my "Computer" file. I have tried and tried, reconnecting and rebooting, but it still won't connect.

Same problem! I'm borrowing my brother's XT (mine was stolen along with my card reader last week) and although he always connects with the cable, it's not working for me. I'm working on a Mac.

My EOS Digital Rebel will not coNnect to my new computer. I plug it in and turn it on, and nothing happens, except for the negative beep from WinXP. I can't find any software installation that I need, so I don't klow what to do. The camera is pretty useless.

Do you have a USB card reader? I find it much, much esaier to put the card from my Canon into the card reader and read it directly from there. No messing about with USB cables, drivers, etc etc!

Please discard that the USB port or the USB cable are defective. You can do it if you try to hook your camera in other personal computer using the same USB cable. If it works, then follow the next instructions.

Connect your camera to the PC thru the USB cable and turn it on.

If you are using Windows, go to the Control panel - System - Hardware - Devices - and check if there is any device that was not recognized by Windows. Such devices are marked with a yellow question mark.

If so, get into the device item and with right mouse click, select to update the device driver.

If there was not unrecognized device, then you can unistall your USB port driver and then run a change hardware status to recognize the USB port again, then run the update driver routine.

Need installation software to download Canon Digital Rebel XT/EOS to my computer so I can download pictures. I have misplaced the disk which came with the camera. Is it possible to download that software...

You can download Canon software from
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/eos_slr_camera_systems/eos_digital_slr_cameras/digital_rebel_xt#DriversAndSoftware

You might want to consider NOT connecting the camera to the computer. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.
