Question about Disney D7500PDD Portable DVD Player

Disney Portable DVD Player won't play

Ok, I bought my DVD player just under a year ago and have had very little problems with it until now. When you plug in the car adapter for power the main units light turns an orangeish color and just has lines playing and the second units light turns green but only shows a blue screen. Does anyone know what the problem is and if so how to fix it. My girls are upset that they can't watch movies in the car anymore.

    You can't just get the part from a Radio Shack or something like that?

  • brize_24 Feb 13, 2009

    If it is the AV cord, which you are not sure of, can't you just get another one form someplace like Radio Shack or one similar to that?

Teh point is that we do not know if the unit uses a standard video cable.
The best thing to do is contacting Disney support at the number listed in the instructions and asking them a replacement cable.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Based on your description, I am inclined to suspect that:

  • there is nothing wrong with the second unit. The blue screen indicates a video mute. Video mute occurs due to the absence of an intelligent video signal from the main unit;
  • the main unit showing an orange indicator LED instead of the regular green indicates a fault. without checking for the absence/presence of the correct voltages from the car adapter to the internal voltage regulator, any diagnosis would be guess work.
Suggested course of action involves:
  • test VDC at the output of the car adapter;
  • check for any loose connection on the power jack of the main unit;
  • wiggling the power plug while connected to the jack;
  • determine/locate a possible reset button. If present, it would be under/inside a small hole and marked accordingly.
If above is not corrective, then the main unit has to be opened up for a look & see. Areas to check would be:
  • voltage regulator that supplies the + 5 and + 12 to the main unit's circuitry;
  • blistered/faulty capacitors;
  • any or all other components in the regulator area.
Should be be unfamiliar working with electronic components and circuitry, perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional. On the other hand, should you factor in the repair cost, downtime and effort required to effect a repair, you may want to re-evaluate your options and consider a replacement unit.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYAa.

Hi there
To rule out the power adapter, take the portable DVD player out of the car, get a AC adapter of the same power jack, voltage and wattage of the DVD player and see if it has the same problems. If it does then the problem is internal and you will have to open the unit up, clean the insides and make sure all the connectors and leads are seated tight.
If it works fine on AC power then the cord inside the car is the problem and of course you can replace it.
You do however have the option of warrant as the unit is under a year old, if you still have the receipt it should still come under the manufacturers warranty as standard is 12 months, this means they have to fix it if the problem is internal.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!!

As long as the cable has the same plug (to the DVD) - any will do.
Finding one will be a task.
I would suggest looking on eBay for an inoperative set that you can scavange parts from.
The units are made in China, and parts are not made available.
They are considered "throwaway units" once the warranty is over.

Thanks for using FixYa - a FixYa rating is appreciated!!

Hi..Your laser that reads the discs is too dirty or is out of alignment.
Should clean laser every 20 hours of use with any DVD laser cleaner system. If you are technical you can remove parts to get to laser and clean with alcohol and Q-tip
Quick fix can be compressed air when door is open
DVD's also need checked for scratches and dirt as well..

thank u.!!

Best Buy won't fix things that are covered under manufacturer's warranty. To fix this, you need to find the manufacturer of your portable DVD player and contact their warranty department.

This information is in the instruction manual that came with the portable DVD player.

If you have lost the warranty information, Disney may be able to provide it.

DVD player will not play Disney made movies

I don't know what BOLT is, as I fixed my last DVD player 6 years ago at Sony. I think the Disney Format is Newer than your DVD player can read.

I remember Sony had a $5000.00 when new DVD player that was the first generation of DVD's. We would get them in for repair and the guy would say "My Radio Shack $99.00 plays all my DVD's but this $5K FIVE YEAR OLD unit won't play them....

There was NO fix for the problem. The New DVD's were beyond the capability of the 5 year old unit.

SO.. Is the Disney DVD a Blue Ray Disk? Or a new format that your older DVD can't read?

Disney dvd player parental control code

I'm sure you've found the solution by now, but I'm going to post a response for people in the future with the same problem. The unlock code for dvd's is found on page 25 in my users guide. I dont know if the code is different for every t.v. but mine is 1369. Hope this helps. Also I thought it was kinda funny because the same exact thing happened to my daughter with the same Barbie Island Princess movie the day after Christmas!

Audiovox d1210

We bought this player almost 5 years ago, and have the same problem. When we called audiovox at the time they told us that it was because some of the dvd mnufacturers had changed the format/technology in which they recorded the dvd programs. The biggest problem was with the Disney dvd's. Also, that they did not have any software upgrades at that time to upgrade the player. We used it for a while with the hit and miss movies that it would play, and then finally shelved it and bought a minivan with a preinstalled dvd player. Very rarely use the audiovox now. I am surprised; however, that after 5 years they would still have the same problem and have still not yet upgraded the software in this player. Good luck.
