Question about HP DeskJet 672c InkJet Printer

Print dark at top of each line of text, fades away at bottom

My system is XP and the printer is HP 672C which had been printing OK, then suddenly wasn't. I have re-installed the driver but that did not help, thinking that the files had been corrupted. Each line of text prints darker at the top but fades out at the bottom. The top portion that does print is 'grainy', ie, the individual printer dots are visible. What really has me confused is that the "Printer Test Page" prints just fine. I've tried printing from WordPad, Word files, and from website 'printer friendly' option, all with the same results.
Does anyone know where the problem is, and most importanly how to fix it?
Thanks, cslater.

As I stated initially, the 'test page' prints just fine. If it were a problem with the printer, then wouldn't it also affect the 'test page' printing?

    Thanks.......

One of the first things that I tried was to install a fresh printer cartrige but the problem still exists. Also I have tried printing in the 'best' mode, and that also made no difference.

    Thank you for the reply.
My anti virus software (Avast!)automatically updates each time I go online, it runs continuously, and I have run a scan. Nothing was found.

  • cslater Feb 27, 2009

Yes I have tried a different printer cartrige. The one that was in the printer when it began having problems still was about half full of ink. The new one that I installed was fresh out of the package. Before I installed the fresh one, I followed HP's instructions for cleaning so I'm pretty sure that's not the problem.

The print spooler is not working. This is for XP, vista may be a little different but goes to the same place. Your printer is fine since it printed the test page. Follow this to reset the print spooler. Click on start>control panel>admin tools>computer management>on left side is Services and Applications. Click on "+" to open and click on Services. Scroll down until you see print spooler. Right click and restart or close/open depending on the options. Now go back and try to print again. It should work.

Hi cslater! The problem might be due to Printers Settings. make sure the printer settings are the same as when you print the "Test Page" and when you print something else. If that doesn't work. Then there must be a hardware problem, as printers that print out the "Test Page" well but other pages not good. But do make sure the printer settings are the SAME!!

Hi cslater my name is scott. this is a common problem with inkjet printers and should be quite easy to fix, if you uninstall the printer completley then use add/remove programmes to uninstall any software which your pc is installed with from disc, then connect the printer again and search for the drivers instead of running the software on the disc. this should stop the conflict which you are having from another programme, possibly a drawing package or printing package.

Its not the printerdrivers problem or the problem of cartridges.its the clear problem of the golden dotted circuit of the printer to which the cartridge touches.that dotted circuit is connected to the main board through a thick cable.which actually moves with the cartridge holer carriage.its whitish brown in colout and four to five inch broard.that cable is got faulty.it gets short diue to many reasons.if its got cut in between this happens.if got short circuit due to moistute this happens.to replace that cable is not at all a simple job.the rate of new cable with its carriage is near to $ 15 plus the service change of the engineer who fits it.as the printer is very old.its very difficult to get this parttt and the company is now not making this cables with head assembly part.getting a new printer is much advisable.still you can try out near by local repair center for head cables reparing.
thanks.

How old is your print cartridge? Did you refill it yourself? If so, there is your problem. Purchase an OEM replacement cartridge and it will work fine. My priter does the same thing after I refill the cartridge a second time seems the cheaper ink gums up the ink jets.

Its the cartridge problem because.while printing test page it printrs in best mode and while you print the documents its printing in normal or draft mode.due to this its getting faded.in best mode it consumes more ink so its printing the test page properly.either the cartridge is faulty or near to end so replasce it or refill it. thanks.

Hi,

the problem of your printer is not in software it is in the hardware..
so please go to the nearest shop and ask for the technician to open it for you because your printing set up is not working properly.

First try the printer on a different computer, but being that this is a very old printer, most likely it would require repair you can get a replacement printer for as little as 20$ brand new at walmart. Which is a much wiser choice. If you need further assistance let me know. Also please take a moment to accept and rate my solution accordingly.
Thanks,

Have you installed a different printer ink cartridge? I have used this printer and other HP models, have seen this issue, and yes test page looked ok for me to, so install another cartridge and then try it.

Looks like a braille text

Open the HP Printer Toolkit (this software was installed from the CD-ROM that came with the HP printer) and run a "cleaning cycle",
because some of the ink-jets are clogged, which results in the "all-white" horizontal lines, where some part of that line should be black.

Faded text every few lines- Canon printer

When you print photos you print in Max dpi, for this no faded lines anywhere. Probably you have a problem only in black color in print head.
Мay be it's partially clogged or partially defective.

First print line print fades away across page,

The page size is off. Try readjusting it in your "printing preferences". Otherwise, if it is new, back to the store for a replacement. It really should not do that.

Every other line prints only bottom half of text.

I have a psc 2355 printer which only prints half of text then the next lines are ok then it repeats only printing half text. I removed my ink cartridge and wiped the ink ports with a tissue heavily moisten with water. Repeated this several times and then gently dried with a tissue. The problem was fixed!!
