Temperature in refrigerator drops with settings above freezing

The temperatures in both sides of this unit continue to get cooler.

There are two temperature controls for this unit which in on the facing inside the refrigerator side of this two door model. I can not set the temperature on the refrigerator side, with out it continuing to drop below the set mark of 37 C. Currently I am having to turn the unit off to perevent freezing of vegetable in the refrigerator, but this also prevents the ice maker from working properly.

How do I get the temperature to set in the refrigerator side?

I have the same problem with y Arctica - Mine is 6 years old and just started this.  Did anyone get a quick fix or did you have to call for repair?  If so what was the cost?  Sears said I could buy and extended warranty before they come out for $250.

    Fridge freezes everything...

There is a servo driven door about eye level behind the tower just a bit above the top shelf and behind the white plastic panel. I'm not sure why, but the door breaks off at the hinge point and allows the vent to be open all the time - which allows cold air to the fridge constantly - which is why everything is freezing. Here's a link to fix it..http://www.repairclinic.com/SSPartDetail...

I am having the same issue mine is also approx. 6 years old. We paid like 1800 for this thing, my parents bought a $200 Gibson about 15 years ago and it is fine. Whats up with these higher end units? It is a nice machine but it should not have went out so soon!

1998 GT22DKXGN00 refrigerator freezes, where is thermostat in refrigerator ? This is a Whirlpool

Check refrigerator and freezer temperature. If the freezer is above 0 degrees Fahrenheit it is likely the cooling capacity of the unit has reduced due to low charge or weak compressor. What usually happens is that the freezer is not able to reach the proper temperature and the unit runs continuously. The result is that the refrigerator via the freezer-refrigerator air flow connection freezes.

"This is not intuitive", but the logic is that from the compressor running continuously the freezing air that flows into the refrigerator side results in that the refrigerator will freeze,.

Check the temperatures. If the freezer is above 10 degrees F it is almost certianty the cooling capacity has been reduced.

If equipped with an ice maker the output of the ice-maker will also reduce with this problem

It is possible to have the compressor replaced but not usually cost effective.

Cooler keeps freezing product

You killed the messenger! The refrigerant charge is probably the problem. The thermostat senses the coil temperature and not the cabinet temperature. If somebody put gas in it, the gas has to be removed, a vacuum drawn on the system and then the refrigerant charge weighed in by the ounce. It takes a critical charge and needs to be weighed in by an accurate scale that weighs in ounces. Hope this helps and good luck.

My refrigerator freezes everthing in one day

Hello,

When the refrigerator side is getting too cold or freezes, this is because the control of the compressor has gone bad in some way...

There a few different things that could cause the unit to lose control over the temperature of the fridge side.

If your refrigerator has a damper door that opens and closes to allow cold air to move to the fridge side the damper linkage or the damper motor may have broken or gone bad.

The coils in your fridge may have frozen over and now the air does not move at all so then the ice builds up and can freeze parts of the fridge side.

The thermostat has gone bad and so now the compressor runs continually. This will not be noticed readily on the freezer side but will show up quickly on the fridge side.

Many newer model refrigerators use an electronic sensor or thermistor to read the temperature and supply the info for the circuit board and often a digital readout.

So, here is how I would go about troubleshooting this problem.

Check the coils for ice, defrost the coils with a heat gun or hairdryer, then check for the reason why they iced over. Defrost control or defrost timer bad? Evaporator fan bad?

Check the damper door to see if it is stuck in the open position. If it is then check the motor and the linkage.

Check to see if the refrigeration unit will shut down if the thermostat or digital setting is turned up to a higher temperature. If it continues to run then find the cause and fix it. It may be a bad thermostat, sensor, or control board.

Sometimes with a change is weather to a cooler climate this will be enough to also affect the inside temperatures. Make sure that a bit of adjustment in the thermostat or setting of the temperature will not solve your problem very simply.

I hope the above helps.

Regards.

It is not holding temp. its range is 30 to 49 degrees in one hour

As a refrigerator, it should not go below about 34 degrees. If it is going down to 30, it may be freezing up on the coil. If you get a chance, do this: unplug the refrigerator and let it sit for 4 hours with the door open. If the coil is frozen it will defrost. You can feel the coils inside the box at the top back inside the unit. If you feel ice at any time it is an indication that it is getting too cold. Once the inside coils freeze over, the air can't flow through the coils and the unit will get warmer and warmer. When it is defrosted, set the thermostat just above the off setting. Let it run until the compressor shuts off. See what the temperature reads on a thermometer inside the cooler. If it is not cool enough move the thermostat one number colder and let it run an hour. Take your time, let it equalize before you change the thermostat. Also if the cooler is empty it is hard to set the thermostat because when you open the door all the cold air escapes and the temp will change rapidly. If it is full of cold food, opening the door won't change the temperature very quickly. Also check the radiator coils at the bottom of the cooler behind the grill. If it is clogged with dust or grease, the compressor may overheat and shut off prematurely.

Viking Wine Cellar Temperature Near-Freezing

Viking wine coolers are made by Marvel. They all had issues with freezing the contents. If you replace the electronic cold control system it will be fine.If you don't, it will freeze the wine popping the corks and leaking in the unit.If you get the parts from Marvell they are much cheaper.
