Lol the cost of your internet will only change if you call them up and change your plan. if you go out and buy a new modem it will go the speed of the modem....so basically having a broadband connection with a 1mbps modem is like trying to force an elephant through a mouse hole....lol so to answer your question straight you get a new modem you'll get faster internet....have fun

I bought a ASUS PC 900 notebook with on attachments where can i find them?

not sure which country you are in have a look through yellow pages
telstra optus crazy johns dodo are some ie providers in australia

first you must have an ISP Internet Service provider contract which will provide you with a modem and leads you can choose either a dial up usb or

an ethernet connection to connect to the internet or
if you have a laptop you can choose a wireless usb modem
which can work on a desktop aswell once you recieve the modem just insert the disk provided and follow the prompts to set up your new internet connection

during the setup process you will be asked for a password I suggest you make a log of all pass words used outside of your computer incase of memory lapses

hope it helps

I have two computers. One is connected to the internet with a cat 5 cable. I bought a new cable for the new computer which is a fastcat 5. However, I cannot get this computer to work on the internet. If i...

I'm assuming that you have a modem or a modem and router combination with multiple cat5 ourputs. You have tried both computers with the Cat5 cable and they both work fine. If this is the case, I would suspect that you have a faulty fastcat 5 cable.

I only want to know the meaning of the different colours of cables that are used in crossover cables?

the standard colours for CAT5(e) or CAT6 ethernet cable are:

green, green stripe
blue, blue stripe
orange, orang stripe
brown, brown stripe

the typical setup for an ethernet connection in an RJ45 (the crystal end with the connection tab towards you) is

1 green stripe gclosen.jpg
2 green
3 orange stripe
4 blue
5 blue stripe
6 orange
7 brown stripe
8 brown

Wires 1 & 2 are used to transmit data from the PC to the router/modem (TX) and wires 3 & 6 are used to recieve information from the modem/router (RX). in this fasion, information flows along one pair or another and is expected to arrive at that pinout. the router/hub/modem takes care of the transition to the next cable or out to the internet.

In a crossover cable ONE end is configured as above, but the colours for wires 1, 2, 3, and 6 are exchanged so that when no hardware is between the two PCs/components the signal is transmited at wire 1 & 2 and recieved on pins 3 & 6 on the other system/component. the other colours are placed for backward compatibilitiy and other applications, such as power over ethernet.

following the standard above allows anybody familiar with RJ45 connections repair a connection with a standard colour code and pattern without having to see the other end. If you know you need to replace one end of a patch cable, you use the standard termination.

How to solve the lan problem

With only Cat 5 UTP cable segments, the maximum length for any cable segment is 100 meters, make sure that you don't exceed this. Also crossover cables are for switch to switch connections. You must use a straight thru cable from PC to switch port

Check to see if your modem is answering these calls, or messing them up somehow. Plug the phone in where the modem is plugged in and see if it works there. If the phone works there, then the modem is the problem.
