Question about Texas Instruments TI-89 Calculator

1 Answer

The calculator won't convert fractions into decimals

If i enter 3 divided by 5 the answer ends up the same and does not calculate the answer into decimals like. To me the answer should show up as .6 but instead the answer is the same as what i asked it to calculate.

How to convert percent to fraction

  1. Divide the percent by 100 to get decimal number.
  2. Count the number of digits (d) to the right of the decimal point of the decimal number.Example: 2.56 has 2 digits to the right of the decimal point, so d=2.
  3. Calculate the factor (f) for making the decimal number an integer: f = 10 to power d
    f = 10 power 2 = 100
  4. Multiply and divide the decimal number x by the factor f: x * f / f = y / f
    2.56 * 100 / 100 = 256 / 100
  5. Find the greatest common divisor (gcd) of the fraction. Example:
    gcd(256,100) = 4
  6. Reduce the fraction by dividing the numerator and denominator by the gcd value: Example:
    256 / 100 = (256/4) / (100/4) = 64/25
Example One percent is equal to one hundredth:
1% = 1/100
So in order to convert percent to fraction, divide the percent by 100% and reduce the fraction.
For example 56% is equal to 56/100 with gcd=4 is equal to 14/25:
56% = 56/100 = 14/25

Why does my TI-30Xa calculator keep converting fractions to decimals? I type in a # then click the fraction key (1/x key) and before I can enter the denominator # it immediately says 0.33333333, how can I...

First of all, the "1/x" key isn't the fraction key, it's "1-over-x." Pressing 3 1/x divides 1 by 3, giving you 0.33333333 .

If you want to enter a fraction, use either "a b/c" or "d/c," located just to the left of the 1 key. You can convert between decimal and fraction with "F--D" just below that.

How to fraction. where is the fraction key

This calculator is incapable of displaying simplified fractions (i.e. 1 ½), you will have to use the decimal value or contain your complex fraction in parenthesis. (i.e. (5/2).)

Problems with fractions on the Casio fx-115es

To convert fractions to decimals or decimals to fractions, you use the [S<->D] key. Each time you press the key the result is displayed in the other format.
Alternatively, If you multiply or divide two integer numbers put a decimal mark at the end of one of the numbers (any one). The result will be displayed in decimal format.

Hope it helps.

When I divide answers are always given in Fractions. Can I change it to come out in decimals?

To change from Fraction display to Decimal display on the Casio fx-300ES (and probably other calculators)

1) Press the "SHIFT" button
2) Press the "MODE/SETUP" button
3) Press the "2" button
This Changes it to LINEIO (Decimal)

Doing all of the above but pressing the "1" button instead of the "2" puts it back into MATHIO mode (Fraction)

Hope this Helps

(SHIFT)(MODE/SETUP)(2) to change to decimal
