Question about Acer TravelMate 8204WLMi Notebook

1 Answer

I have a TravelMate 8204WLMi. I want it boot off CD - but cannot enter bios. At the Acer screen I press F2 , it goes to a blank screen with a flashing cursor. I wanted to reload - so eventually I removed HDD and re-formatted on another machine - then inserted disk back - in the hope it would revert to boot from CD - no luck - now it comes up with NTLDR missing . Press Ctrl-Alt-del ..... please help.

the master boot sector on the hard drive maybe corupted some how.

also you will need a program like drive pro, or partition specailist program like partitionmagic or drive imaging software.

you maybe able to go to pc world download center and download a partition manage to help fix the boot sector on the hard drive.

you have to have the option in windows to boot to other devices like cd rom, dvd, usb flash drive, optical drive.

go into windows internet explorer, go to ,tools , internet options, goto advance folder go down to security options and pick the 3 top option in that section, you may want to look threw that section and see what else option you like like the ctl key short cuts, favorate folder options, boot options, underline, encrypting income and out going internet providers and lots of neat tools to help performance of windows vista and xp users

Linux mint 12 won't boot from CD

Restart your computer, press repetedly a key to enter BIOS, normally Del, go to Advanced BIOS Features probably and change to boot primarly from CD/DVD (1st Boot Device CD/DVD , or something like that), save and exit BIOS, and restart your computer with Linux Mint CD inside. Be aware that if you make wrong changes in BIOS, you could damage your computer.

Icant get my acer travelmate to boot from cd

You need to set the BIOS configuration to boot from the CD.

I'm not sure how the Travelmate enters the BIOS (Setup), it could be the F1, F2, ESC or DEL ket after the ACER logo and before the Windows logo appear on the screen. When the BIOS opens, go to the Config page, set the CD to be the first boot device.

Acer 5315 will not start up windows

check the BIOS setup screen, when you get the ACER screen press F2 or F10 or the DEL or END or ESC key one of those will get you into the bIOS SETUP. Once there revise the boot order, make sure the CD is first to boot then HDD. Also review to see if the BIOS recosgnized the HDD. the symptom you are describing may be a bad HDD.

CD Drive on Travelmate 2500 not working

Dear Grant625,

yes you can do this way. only one thing you need to make sure and double check boot option in BIOS that; In booting sequence USB Drive should be the first one to boot as this way laptop will boot from there and you can install recovery discs. I beielve you have external USB CD Drive!

I am not sure exactly which key to press on your Laptop but when your computer boots up you need to press quickly "DEL" or "F2" or something like this to go in BIOS options before it goes to windows loading screen. you can see which key to press when computer boots up and these information comes on the screen somewhere before windows loading screen.

let me know if any problem.

Thanks.

Regards,

AJoshi

ACER Travelmate 244

You could have a problem with the cdrom drive, thus the whine. Since it can't read the cdrom drive it goes then to read the hard drive (thus going around in circles).

If you have access to another computer, put the cd recovery drives on a flash drive, have the computer boot to the flash drive (if bios capable). The flash drive will recover your computer the same way your cd's did.

Let me know if this helped.

Keeps resetting

try pressing F8 on start up this will take you into safe mode, then when the options menu comes up choose 'Last Known Good Configuration' and then press enter, for a restart. If the problem persists the boot.ini file may be damaged and you will need the windows cdrom to repair the system, if you dont have one borrow a copy off a friend and use your license number under your notebook, this is legal; as this is what you pay for not the cd.
