Sounds like you are trying to set up a printer. If you have a USB cable, which it sounds like you do, you've put one end in the USB port in your laptop. The other end, which is square with two beveled corners, goes in the corresponding hole in the back of your printer. If the only connection you have in the printer is the older centronics connection (about 2" wide) and there is no other connection, your printer is too old to hook up this way. New printer time, as depending on the age of your laptop, it probably does not have a parallel port to hook up a printer like that.

\i need to connect lexmark E232 laser printer to HP desk top computer but printer cable does not fit computer. what do i do?

most printers now use USB2 for the input. It is a square looking cable. Now, most pc's have a standard USB 2.0. It is a flat rectangular looking cable. You need to find a cable that had one of those on each end. I should have come with one.

Connect up to Dell Computer

You will need a USB cable similar to this:

This is a USB A/B type cable where both ends are slightly different from each other. One side is rectangular (the typical USB size), while the other is square. You can purchase this USB cable from just about any electronics store near you (best buy, radio shack, or for the best price checkout Ebay).

Plug the square end to your printer, and the rectangular end to your computer. The USB connection on your PC is definitely on the back of it, and sometimes located on the front too. Plug everything together and make sure the power's turned on. This can also be done while the PC is already on. Your printer should be noticed quickly by your operating system. If not, try rebooting your PC.

If this has answered your question, please give me the appropriate thumbs up! Thanks, and good luck!

All printers use the same USB cable, the one on the printer is square and the rectangular plug goes to your computer.

What kind of usb cable does it take to hook this up to a laptop? The port on the back does not look standard. Will it work with windows 7?

Majority of printers today use a 'square D' type USB cable. The 'square D' comes from the unique shape of the plug that goes into the printer. The other end of cable will be a typical rectangular slot and will work with any laptop or desktop with a USB port. You may have more than one USB port on either side and maybe even one on the back of laptop. Some printer manufacturers do not ship cable with printer. If you need to get one, retailers like Walmart and Radioshack typically carrie them. Take account the distance between printer and laptop so you can get the right length. As for windows 7, you can get drivers for Epson printers on the Epson website. Click the downloads link. Select your printer product and operating system. Driver downloads are free and do not require registration.

Not printing from my laptop

If you have inserted the USB cable into the slot on the front of the printer, it will not print from the computer. That slot is for direct printing from a digital camera. You need to insert the USB cable into the port on the back/side of the printer. The port is almost square in shape, and should receive the end of the USB cable that is square with two rounded corners. The other end of the USB cable, much more rectangular, goes into the USB slot on your computer.

Printer connect

There are two types of slots USB and Parallel ports. You probably have a USB, it should be a small rectangular head, with no holes or pins. You will find a matching slot on the side of the laptop. But that's not the last step as you have to run the disc that came with the printer to install it on the laptop. You will not be able to use the printer until that is done, unless it was added at an earlier date. If you have any questions let me know.

Printer 6540

First of all u need to assemble the printer and need to ensure that the printer has a steady green light on Power..
If any light blinks it means there is some problem with the printer..
To connect the printer with your Laptop u need an USB cable which has a rectangular connector at one end wich will be connected to the Laptop's USB Slot and the other end of that cable will have almost square connector wich will be connected to the printer...
Before connecting the printer U need to install the Software on the Laptop and connect the printer when system prompts..
remember the printer should be powered on while connecting to the system..

How can igo by hooking up a canon printer to the computer

Do you have a USB to Peripheral cable? It should look like the photo and have one square end and one rectangular end.  The rectangular end goes into one of the computer's USB ports, marked by the usb symbol (a large circle branching into a small circle, triangle, and square) which can be viewed on the rectangular end of your USB to Peripheral cable.

The square end goes into the printer, marked by the same symbol.
