Re: CANNOT GET INTERNET_ROUTER CONNECTED AND WORKING...
First, plug the network cable directly from your cable modem to your computer to ensure proper connection. If that works, then you can narrow the problem down to the router and dianose what is going wrong.
Some routers have automatic setup programs...but other times you have to specify if your broadband connection is coming from cable or a DSL line as they handle these two differently.
Also, if your ISP gave you any software, you may need to run it to 'configure' the modem to allow traffic to go through a router. Usually not necessary...but worth a shot if nothing else works.

I recently purchased a new wireless card for my desktop, it was a Linksys 54g with speedbooster but after the switch the networks I was connecting to (Free wireless from my apartments) will no longer connect. The old card that I had was just an offbrand card which used the microsoft zero connection tool to configure, this new card attemps to use the software included and ive tried to switch between the two different connection configuration tools both can detect the routers but when trying to connect it does not even get to the aquiring access key stage. the router is not passworded so I guess I was just wondering can this new card not connect to the router maybe due to brands? possibly the router is belkin or something of that sort and this linksys card cannot connect? I had before gotten it to connect at the very good 54kbps or whatever the number is but it would not let me access internet and then said limited/no connectivity. I also tried to change the settings on my wireless card and set them to 802.11b only, 54g auto, 54g LRS or Performance but all had the same result, I switched the default channel to match that of the router as well still nothing. dell inspiron 1525 battery
Belkin routes have a security set up utility when u purchase them u have to do the set up. If you had it a while try taking a pencil or pen head and near the power plug insert there is a tiny hole with a button deep inset in it. Hold it in with the pencil head until all the lights flash then release it. You have just factory reset the router.
For that you need to access your router settings Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable. Then you can access it with default link http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 for belkin routers http://192.168.15.1 or http://192.168.2.0 Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or blank or "password" Then you can see configuration of router. Then check wireless security then check WEP or WAP code add new code there if it is in * or# format then save settings and restart router. So then you can connect internet with that new password. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.
........."Scenario: your neighbor is puzzled that his broadband performance is slow.He gets an expert like you to come and check whether his system is working properly. He is told "there's your problem - the people next door are using your connection and they seem to be downloading stuff using Kazaa and Limewire all day and all night. . the problem with that is if the two of you have the same brand of router (say Netgear), with default settings, then it won't know which is your "NETGEAR" network, and which is their "NETGEAR" network. That is why (apart from a little added security) I say to change the SSID." "All wireless routers I am aware of have the facility to change the SSID (it usually defaults to something like "NETGEAR", or "3COM").But it is still a good idea to secure your own network - and change the SSID. If you don't change the SSID, then any neighbours with the same brand of router will have the same SSID, and your laptops won't usually know which one they are accessing. And setting the router to not broadcast the SSID is good too. But it is still a good idea to secure your own network - and change the SSID.
The procedure is 1st. to connect the LAN cable to the router (not to the LAN port marked WAN) and use the browser to configure the Belkin router for the wireless settings.
In the wireless setup change the SSID from the default SSID to what you like., set up encryption (if your wireless card supports WAP then use WAP encryption, if not use WEP 128bit)
Also change the administrator password (write it down and put it in a safe place).
you can disconnect the LAN cable from the computer and router.
If you had not installed the wireless driver for you wireless card, do so now.
Connect the LAN cable to the WAN port on the router and the other end to the Hughesnet.
Now configure the wireless card with the SSID and the encryption that was set on the router.
If all goes well you should see your router and get on to the Internet.
Get back to me with error messages if you have problems.
avira is not a good antivirus but it has no effect on internet connection.plz mention r u using internet through cable or wireless lan.
u send me then i will try resolve ur problem.
about ur boy's interest u should give them ur own training . As they r very small they can't understand networking concept from book(book name-data communication and networking by FOROUZAN)
Sounds like you need to assign ONE device to be the default connection. Or you could be having a power struggle issue between Vista and another driver over the connection. If you have a new system, make sure you do all the Vista updates before attempting to insert an outside influence. Vista seems to have a problem with letting others be the Alpha dog. Service packs first then try to add other devices. Also, with routers or cams etc., if you attach the device before it tell you to do so, 99.9% of the time it will not work properly.
