I agree with jsparo. If you don't have the discs, you will have to buy a Microsoft disc set and reistall fron scratch. After you do this, then you will have to download and install any missing device drivers (right click my compuer, select manage, select device manager, any devices with the quest. mark need device driver) Good Luck.

If you have the recovery disks for your desktop pc just use them.
You can just reinstall windows use the driver disk for your dektop pc and the system should work fine.
Good Luck.

Cant put factory settings on my acer one

There should have been a recovery disk created or included when you bought a laptop. Insert disk if you have it and restart your computer with the recovery disk in the CD drive. Make sure all your documents and personal data are backed up. When the computer restarts it should start restoring your computer to the factory default. There will be a wizard to guide you through the process. If there is not a disk, then follow this steps:
1.Save any files or folders on your computer with flash drives. Drag and drop files onto the icon of your flash drive.
2.Go to "Start" > "Restart" to reboot your netbook.
3.Hold down "Alt" and "F10" when you see the logo on the screen. The recovery menu will load.
4.Hit "Enter" and then "Next" to see your recovery options. Choose "Factory Restore" to set your computer back to factory settings. Follow the instructions on the screen.
5.Choose your time zone and language when the customization menu appears. Reboot when you are prompted.
6.Restore your saved files from the flash drive.

hope this helps,Goodluck..pls rate..thanks

Inspiron 600m was dropped and gets stuck on the black windows xp loading screen. will not start under any f8 option (ex. safemode, etc.)

if the computer was dropped while it was operating a program, and the hard disk drive was spinning at the time of the accident , then your hard disk drive may have suffered damage (the needle has been placed out of alignment) -- replace the drive

or your OS is corrupt , in which case use the CD recovery media to set your system back to factory deafult settings -- by doing this, YOU WILL LOSE all your data and programs

I need to make recovery dvd's for my packer bell desk top as i have lost originals when moving house. have tried to do down load them of my mates laptop put it states that recovery dvds already exsist....

It probably is on a recovery partition ( if there is one ) of the hard drive. There may be a program that came already loaded onto the pc for you to do this, though if you already have done this when you got the pc it won't alow you to make others.
Hope this helps.

Have gateway md7818u notebook that locked up, my son accidently used the recovery disks from our gateway desk top to recover, now when I load the actual laptop recovery disks, it acts like it's loading...

0x00000070 error means that Windows start up failed in an early stage.
If you are unable successfully boot into Windows because of the this error, Windows has an option to reload registry information from the last successful boot. To revert to the last successful boot:
  1. Reboot the computer.
  2. Near the end of the BIOS messages or graphic, but well before anything appears from Windows, press the F8 key. You may only have a few seconds to get the right spot to press F8 before it attempts to go into Windows. If the BIOS complains about a pressed key or asks you to go into BIOS setup, you've pressed F8 too soon (Don't go into BIOS setup).
  3. When successful, you should see a back screen with white text "Windows Advanced Options". Use the up or down arrow keys to highlight Last Known Good Configuration and press Enter.
  4. If this does not work you may have already reformatted the original disk partition. If that is the case you will have to re-install windows from scratch.

I have an Acer Labtop 4620z When I turn it on it Freezes after The Desk top Loads... HELP.. Won't let me connect .. virus disks freeze as well ???

Before the desktop tries to load, hit the F12 key a few times until the boot choices menu loads on the screen. Choose to load it in "safe mode with networking"
Once the computer starts up, find all your data, music, pictures you want to save, and back them onto a CD, or external hard drive.
Next, shut off the computer, restart it, and hit the delete, or F2 keyseveral times until it loads the "setup" page. Once you are in the setup page, you need to find the choices for what boots first.
Choose to boot from the CDROM drive. Save the settings. Insert the recovery CD into the drive. shut the PC off. Restart the PC, once the recovery CD starts, then follow the on screen prompts to reinstall the operating system etc.
If this does not work then you have hardware failure of some kind, and need to have someone local look at it, and figure it out from there.

Windows Failed to load because Kernel file is missing

try pressing f8 when you load vista and then select start normally
if that doest not work and gives you the same error then restart and press F12 as soon as you see the dell logo, put in the vista installation disk that you got with the laptop and select boot with disk option.

try and repair or the recovery option .

NOTE : IT IS RECOMMENDED TO TAKE BACK UP OF YOUR FILES BEFORE USING THE RECOVERY OPTION .
