Corrupt modules installer service in vista w/ error code 800b0100

Unable to complete any updates for window vista without error code 800b0100 or ugrade patch missing. Using windows vista SP1 32 bit.
Any repair solutions or suggestions would be apprieciated.

1. Make sure that the default location for downloads is Desktop.
2. Find the specific update on the Microsoft webstie (you may find it
easiest to write down the update number when the automatic
installation starts).
3. Download it; when the dialogue box pops up, check "save to disk".
4. Go to your desktop and double click the icon for the Download.
