Trane XL19i 8? ton heat pump not heating very well

I purchased a new Trane air handler/XL19i compresser and have my heat set at 65 degrees. The thermostat shows 63 degrees. When I turn up the heat to 68 degrees, it takes hours to get to that temperature. My filter is clean. What is going on?

Sounds like you need the water colomon to be adjusted on your gas valve {not enough gas pressure

Your second stage heat check the dip switches on the board and the wires to the proper two stage heat t-stat.

Heat pump compressor/fan/air handler runs heat for 30 secs, then all stop. (Trane XR 11 HP w/honeywell T8411R thermostat). Capacitor good, new 5-2-1 hard-start kit added but didn't solve problem.

Sounds like low pressure. Are you losing low voltage to condenser? Backup heat not working likely due to a setting error or possibly a wiring issue.

Brand New 2 weeks old 4 ton Trane compressor leaks a lot of water onto pad

If the unit is running in cold weather than there is ice building up on the coils located outside. This is normal in that the unit is running in heat pump mode heating inside and cooling outside, After the unit detects the ice build up it briefly reverses the cycle heating the outside coils melting(defrosting) the ice which you observe as water on the pad.

The video gives you an example of the defrost cycle!

Where do i find the expansion valve on a 3.5 ton trane air handler. Model no of the trane air handler is: 2TEC3F42C1000AA

The TXV (thermostatic expansion valve) is always at the end of the high pressure liquid line as it enters the evaporator. This is the small line. The outlet of the TXV will usually have 4, 6 or 8 smaller lines feeding proportional portions of the evaporator coil. You have to remove the cover of the evaporator to access it.

Some units do not use a TXV, so you may have a 'fixed restrictor' instead. It too is located where above described.

Goodman gph1348m41ac unit is blowing cool air in heat mode with mid 30s ambient outdoor temp. I turn it off then on and will usually blow warm air but this cycle is becoming more repetitive. any expert...

A heat pump on the optimal heating day (about 50 degrees ambient) will only deliver approximately 85 degree air as compared to 125 degree air from a fossil fueled furnace. The colder the outdoor air is the less heat there is available to be transferred to the living space. At 30 degrees, the heat transfer capability is getting close to negligible meaning the run cycles will be approaching continuous and eventually as the heat pump along cannot maintain setpoint, the outdoor stat or stats will bring on auxilliary heat in the air handler.

If your ambient temp is below the 'balance point' of the heat pump, the house temp will drop a little lower and most times energize the heat strips through the outdoor t-stat. Your outdoor stat could be set too low for the heat pump to carry the structure all the way down to the balance point so when you turn it off and back on, the lower indoor temp automatically brings on the heat pump plus a heat strip or two, thus the warmer air. Second stage on the stat satisfies due to the heat strip, drops them out of the circuit and the heat pump is left running on first stage heat delivering the perceived cold air.

Your outdoor stat could also be not functioning correctly and not allowing the heaters to come on until the system is turned back on reestablishing the two stage call for heat.

Tons of possibilities and not enough room to list....

Your post didn't mention the Tstat model, if it is new or existing, what if anything might have changed near the tstat (new appliance, ceiling fan in the area) and so on. If it's new and wired correctly and the old one worked fine in the exact same mounting location, then it could be as simple as a defective tstat. If it's existing it could still be defective. On simple systems the tstat control lead for cooling turns on the condensing unit outside and the air handler inside, while the heat control lead on a non-heat pump unit turns on the air handler and heat strip. Newer systems split up the inside and outside units and control them separately to be more efficient. I don't know if you're having an issue with the heat or cool mode. If it's not the tstat then you will likely need to have a trained professional evaluate your system for system issues. Home depot carries Honeywell which Trane uses in their residential systems. Smart tstats are appearing now and while they have their advantages, putting one in an old system would be like putting a new Porsche engine in an old car with the original legacy transmission, so to speak.

OD model#, CKL36- 1F and the indoor model#, AR36-1. The indoor does not have the electric heat strip in it but has the place for it. I want to convert it to a heat pump. Is it a 3 ton system? How many KW...

You can use the existing air handler for a heat pump condenser unit up to 3 tons. The line set, evap coil are fine for a heat pump.
The electric heat strip issue can be another problem, you can put several different size strips in depending on what may be needed where you live, the power requirements will differ with each heat strip, for example a 5KW (5000 watt) heat strip requires a 2 pole 30 amp circuit for heat strip and air handler combination.

My Trane thermostat (TCONT600AF11MAA) is supposed to have 1.5 degrees of heat pump "rest" above the desired setting before turning on the heat pump. The thermometer reading does not change yet...

Friend! All thermostat is calibrated to cut in and cut off at the end of - or + 1 degree end.
Example: If you set 23 degree, it will cut off in 21 degree and cut in @25 degree. So accordingly you set the temp.
Secondly, don't set temp near to your room temp.Minimum difference should be 3 degree. If your room temp 12 degree, set at least 15 degree for heat and if room temp 28, set at least 25 degree for cool.
Hope it's helpful?

I have a Trane heat pump, model #TWP060C300A and a Trane air handler, model #TWE065E130A. Heat pump is 5.0 ton, split system. Air handler has a variable speed motor and a 20Kw 3-phase auxiliary heat strip....

Honeywell Chronotherm thermostats have always had a great reputation for longevity and reliability. They are also much more user-friendly than the other types of programmable thermostats out there. Make sure you get one that states 2-stage heat, heat pump. T8611G will offer that for you. There are many out there that claim to be suitable for heat pumps; however, they do not have the ability to utilize your auxiliary heat strips (2nd stage of heat).
Before you attempt to replace, be sure to write the wire colors and their corresponding terminal marking on a sheet of paper........of your old thermostat. This is very important to make it easier to hook up the new thermostat. Also, before you disconnect the wires, be sure to shut off the circuit breaker to your air handling unit. You can ensure you have the right one by putting the fan switch in "ON". When you turn off the right breaker, the fan will stop running. :-)

I hope you find this information to be very helpful to you. Please don't forget to leave a rating.

What tonnage are these units and is it a variable speed.

The heat pump model number shows that it is a two and a half ton unit. I am sorry but I am not familiar with the air handler model number.
