Underneath the laptop you will see three or four screw holes with an arrow on them in the centreish of the laptop. remember the keyboard is only in the middle of the laptop and not the edge so no need to undo any more.undo these and open laptop. you should also see two small lumps at the foot of the keyboard either side of the spacebar but lower. this shuold release the main body of the keyboard and allow you to lift as far as your ribbon wire will allow. carefully undo the very small catch at the foot of the ribbon wire and release the wire. don not under any circumstances snap this wire as it will be a very skillfull soldering job to repair the damage.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Free Agent 1000GB is heating too much and stops working and want to know how to disassemble it to install a fan.

This is from another site, but I think it has a good description

Be careful, some people report that taking these drives apart may damage the connectors, that are soldered to a circuit board inside the case.

Try these steps, I looked at my own drive and it looks like it has the same design as the one described here.

1. Remove the rubber feet
2. remove the screws from where the rubber feet were.
3. Remove the esata/usb base
4. remove the lower plastic cover
5. remove the tiny screws
6. remove the metal shield
7. remove the 3 base screws.
8. stick a standard screw driver into the lower holes and twist. One side panel will move, one will not. The removeable panel is the one with the logo that lights up. If you are looking at the drive from the back where the ports are, the panel is on the left.
9. Stick the screwdriver between the plastic of the panel that moves. this panel has 4 clips holding it on very tightly but it can be pryed off.
10. Once the panel is open, unplug the drive and remove it. It is in a metal free floating cage. Remove the rubber covers to reveal the screws.
11. Pry the two cage panels apart and the drive is free. There is no permanent damage to the case, so you should be able to mount another drive in it.

Can't access My World Book 1TB through my browser.

Hi Vonnossa

I had exactly the same issue after removing the MioNet software. My device is connected to a router that assigns IP addresses (DHCP) and can easily be accessed using explorer and by mapping the drive so that its available on startup.

The solution I found is as follows.

The unit has a default reset button that will reset the unit User Name to "admin" and the Password to "123456" Without the quotation marks.

The button is recessed in a small hole between the power connector and the network connector on the back of the unit. Its much the same as the small hole on a CD/DVD Drive used to remove discs from a PC that is switched off. You will need a paper clip or similar to reset the device.

Step 1. Switch off the unit and remove all leads.
Step 2. Insert the paper clip into the small hole mentioned above and press (not to hard though)
Step 3. With the clip still in the hole, connect the power lead and switch the unit on.
Step 4. Wait until the circular power button lights up ( this can take anything up to a couple of minutes). Once lit count to 10 and remove the clip.
Step 5. Re-connect the network cable and return to your PC.
Step 6. In your browser type in "wdstorage" No quotation marks.
Step 7. This will open the shared storage manager page. select your option and when it prompts for username enter "admin" and for password enter 123456

Once done you can change usernames and passwords as required.

Good luck
Dave

Keyboard detection problem

if the kb works on another system then the ribbion is ok, right?, the port on the motherboard is broken, which is almost certainly integrated(soldered to the board with no wires in between) which means to replace just the port you need to get a desoldering tool and cloth and a soldering iron(do not use a gun, they are not as acurate when working with this small of a space) and of course some solder, not to mention the replacement part or a more seriously broken laptop with the same part that you can take apart, seems like a lot of work to resurect a laptop, i would suggest a new board, new laptop or get a usb kb, maybe one of those rollup ones they sell on thinkgeek.com so you can retain some of the protablity, then again since the onboard kb is not functional it just sorta becomes deskspace for an external one. the fastest cheapest fix would be an external keyboard, next time i would recomend knowing what you are doing a little better before working on a valueable system or any that you cannot afford to loose, I see people break the ribbion cables and connectors all the time when working on laptops, its usualy because they dont know how to open the clips on the connectors, anyways try to be more careful next time
