I heard that it crashed a few times. I don't know why. But a week ago, it wouldn't come on completely and goes to a screen that says " no boot filename received". I'm not quite computer savvy, but I can assume something when wrong with the boot file on my Acer eMachine w3609. Is this a common error that can be fixed with a simple replacement of parts? Should i take it to a shop? Is there simply a software that I put on it( although that would be hard since I can't log in)?
First test is put new harddrive in and when it goes to boot press Delete,
for entry to Setup, make sure new hard drive is found in equipment.
System equipment, if so then Put Operating disk in CD drive and check
check boot list , Put CD drive first then save and let boot up. It will automatically load the operating system back in the new hard drive.
As far as your saved material in old hard drive. You can check hard drive on second hard drive cable or with a USB adapter connection to
see if able to boot hard drive up and view files. If it works then you can
drag material from one window the desktop (To drag material just put mouse on file and left click-hold down button and move to desktop it will
automatically copy file to desktop.)

Hi,
This could be an operating system fault ( Windows/Linux ) But more likely a Hardware or external connected device error.
Solution 1:) try re-installing Windows.
Solution 2:) remove any external add ons, printer/USB devices et,c. And run the computer without Them.
If the computer runs without error, you can pinpoint a faulty external or addon device.

This is caused by two files that are corrupt on your system. If you can get to another XP computer and get the following two files from the windows\system32 folder and copy them to the same location on your hard drive. The easiest way is to connect your hard drive to the other computer as a slave and copy them.
The files are: userinit.exe and wsaupdater.exe
Hope this helps

If you're lucky, the cable between the laptop's video card and display has come loose at one end. This is a hardware issue and unless you are quite competent with moderately difficult repairs (laptops are unpleasantly intricate to work on), you are most likely going to need a qualified tech to repair it.

This may have happened after an update where a driver was updated that microsoft recommended but was the wrong driver turn off automatically download and install updates choose your updates wisely now to fix that driver either try to roll back the driver if you can figure out which one it was even if you have to go to safe mode to do it or try system restore to locate system restore choose start/help and support search for system restore

take the hard drive to a local computer guru... recovery will depend on what caused the crash, and what has happened since then. Basically, he or she will need to try to boot your hard drive with another tower, or pull all the info directly from the disks themselves. If you had to ask this question, you're gonna need help to fix it.... Sorry.
