Remove the plate and check the bobbin winding area for thread. Sometimes it will build up if you have had a problem with stitches. You can't always see it if the throat plate is in place.

I have a euro pro shark sewing machine. I just changed the thread for another project and cannot get the needle to pick up the bobbin thread. Any ideas?

Try installing a brand new needle. Bent/damaged needles will sometimes not pick up the bobbin thread.

Make sure the machine is threaded correctly. Check the bobbin--ie, it is turning the correct direction in the bobbin case and is threaded properly through the bobbin tension.

You might also try pulling the bobbin thread up to the top before beginning to stitch.

My machine will not pick up the bobbin thread

Install a brand new needle (verify it is facing the proper direction).

Remove all the thread from the machine. ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading. Rethread the machine from the beginning--verify the thread path is correct. Leave at least 4-6" of thread tail. from the needle (Avoid using old or bargain bin thread.)

Insert the bobbin in the bobbin case (make sure the bobbin is turning the correct direction) and thread the bobbin case. Load the bobbin case in the machine. Leave at least 4-6" of thread tail.

Set the upper tension to the midway point.

Retest your machine. Turn the handwheel toward you manually until the needle completes one full cycle of going down and up.

If it is still not picking up the bobbin thread, it may have a needle/hook timing issue. Take it for service.

I cannotl get my 270 D to even sew, it will not pick up the bobbin thread and do a thing. I have yet to sew the machine. donna

Picking up the bobbin thread has to be done by manually. Turn off the machine, open the bobbin door, lift the presser foot, hold the end of the upper thread and slowly turn the side wheel till the needle enters the bobbin race and on the way up it will catch the bobbin thread. Pull the upper thread till you lift the bobbin thread too. Put both threads to the back of the machine, close the bobbin door and you should be able to sew.

The bobbin thread will not pick up. The machine had jammed and I forced the wheel and can't get bobbin thread to pick up. When I thread manually, I only get holes, no stitches. Is it a timing belt?

check your needle to see if it's bent---roll on flat surface to see if it roll correctly
on some sewing machines when the thread comes off the thread take up lever it can cause the machine to jam
also if the bobbin thread becomes tangled it can jam
check the bobbin area for lint or loose threads
try having a top thread tail & bobbin thread tail of 3-4 inches
try holding the top thread tail & turn the handwheel on the right side on the machine manually & put the needle down into the bobbin area & see if the bobbin thread will pick up that way

Top thread won't pick up the bobbin thread

re insert the needle, maybe you did not put the needle up as far as it is to go. Make sure the flat side of the needle is to the back of the machine. Without any thread in the machine hand turn the wheel and look to see if the hook of your bobbin would/could catch the thread (to see if timing is right)
then thread the machine and hand turn the wheel and see what it is doing.
Your timing might be off, but I do not think that is likely. Though it is possible that when the needle fell out, it hit something hard, broke, and pushed the machine out of timing. then you need to bring it in.

The needle thread will not pick up the bobbin thread

It looks right but its not. Try looking on the internet for threading instructions. The bobbin winds in two directions, I have never saw a Bernina but I have 2 new machines and the thread goes in and then threads back to the left. Its hard to describe. But if the bobbin isn't right it will not pick up the thread. Write to Bernina for instructions. There are websites that have the directions for free.
