Your computer just wants you to restart it!!Sometimes a restart is needed to complete some updates.Just go to your start button left click,look for the shut down tab,hold your mouse over it and another tab will open in that tab you'll see restart click that.the restart could take a few mins,as it completes some updates.

if audio is not working// follow all this steps:-
1)check for mute button// it should be on//
2)control pannel/sound icon double click// check default speakers/ test the sound
3)uninstall the sound driver from device manager by clicking on the plus sign and right clicking on the poped driver/ restart the computer/ check by playing the sample music it should work//

xp comp; right click on computer/properties/hardware/device manager tab
vista comp:- type device in start search at the bottom after u click on start button. device manager will be populated on top click on that and the window will open.
this i think is a known problem with this model try to uninstall and reinstall driver go to mycomputer right click on properties hardware device manager mice and other pointing devices try scan for hardware changes and if that dont work right click and uninstall driver retart comp and it will try to reinstall driver failing that try a system restore start, accessories, stystem tools, system restore if that dont work you then need to remaster comp
ok question when you play music is off cd or comp. or mp3 player
reason i ask is cause some cd formats and songs come with the distortion on them the manufacture does not see this cause mass production in cd's
turn onto a receiver fm tuner if static is still there power failure is common in the power house inside receiver these require maintenance and probably new power house conductor
dust in the system can create static also hair and dust are magnatized this can distort the sound quality professional cleaning of system is probably needed in this case
could problem be in motherboard config? i.e. if using motherboard sound hardware turn on in config, if using sound card, make sure motherboard sound hardware is off in configuration. it sounds simple, but after almost 15 years of building comps, i still get it wrong sometimes.sometimes
