In my pc/laptop, the video cant play. why?

It may be that you do not have the proper codec installed for the movie to play? It could also mean that it may be that the DVD-ROM drive is out of whack with the region settings. This issue could also be a bad player or you need to upgrade the adobe player or get the Adobe Player for whatever browser you are using Google Chrome already has it installed when you download it Click Here. There are other variables as well I will start with just these.
Here is how I operate my movies player experiences. I choose a player set it to default. The player I use is VLC which has most codecs from any kind of movie or music format. The codec files I like to use are called k lite Mega Pack. This is a common method folks are going to these days. Windows Media Player also can have these installed right from the k lite Mega Pack Site the codecs that will also work for those movies that have to have the proper codec in order to be played, Click Here.
You also want to make sure that you stay away from installing a lot of players just to get a movie to work they will eventually stop working at all. It is rare now that I have all this installed that I cannot play any movie with Windows Media Player and VLC at the plate. Be sure to read up on this stuff it is rather interesting to say the least half of it I do not understand I just know that it works for me why not you? Thanks for using FixYa! Also I forgot to mention the region is default should be anyway to Region 1 if you are in the US.
To set the region if your movie will not play on the DVD-ROM device seems to not be working do only if needed. You would go to devices by clicking on in Win 7 then go to control panel then select the CDROM drive you are using then click on properties, select the drive. Select the Region 1 setting or the region you live under. Again region 1 is US more than likely it is already set for you by default. I hope that this gave you or others who are reading this the jump on the latests stuff although its has been around you can see why we have to consistently be on the ball and do the reading and upgrading. Thanks for using FixYa! Please cast a good vote for me if I was of any service to you. John

I bought a DVD and does not work. I need a free codec for HP 550

Hi,
First make sure that your new DVD Drive is functional and it can read data from the disks. You can play DVDs only if the DVD drive is working properly. However, Codec are required to play some file format. You can download the latest version of Media Player Classic (K-Lite Codec) FOR FREE
It will install all the required CODEC and you can play all audio - video files.

Hope it helps! Good Luck!

Cannot play DVD, cd video wont play to media player

not sure whether its a problem with the drive or a problem with windows media player. Take a can of air and blow some onto the laser of the dvd drive, this will make sure that there is no dirt or dust on the laser.

Once you do that put the dvd back into the drive. Give it about 20-30 seconds and then see if it tries to pull up the movie if it does and your getting errors from windows media player then we know that the drive is working cause its seeing the movie properly.

At that point, I would suggest downloading the latest version of windows media player.

Go here to download the latest version of Windows Media Player 11.

After doing that and installing it, try playing your movie again, in fact try several movies just to make sure. Windows Media player may want to download Codecs, if it does then let it. This will allow it to recognize dvds better and quicker.

If the codecs are updated and you still can't get it to see and play movies then I would suggest using a different dvd player such as Cyberlink PowerDVD located on this page:

Windows media has sound no visual when playing

Your media player might be having problems getting the video feed from the USB. try copying the file to your local disk and play the movie from there.

I re-installed windows xp professional OS on my HP pavilion dv1000 and whenever I try to play a cd, it tells me that Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound...

Even though you installed windows you may not have installed the drivers required for the sound card. These are available here

You should also download any other drivers that may be required while you are there.

Check by going to CONTROL PANEL / SYSTEM / HARDWARE.

If there are any items in the hardware list with an exclamation mark the get the drivers for that too as you need to make sure your hardware is 100% working before you do much else.

REQUIRED VIDEO DRIVER SOFTWARE FOR ABOVE LAPTOP . 1. NO VIDEO WHILE PLAYING DVD ON WINDOW MEDIA ONLY AUDIO. 2. IN POWER DVD OR VLC MEDIA PLAYER, VIDEO AND AUDIO IS IS NOT PLAYING SMOOTHLY AS NORMAL BUT...

1. It seems to be codec problem . Download K-Lite Mega Pack and install it. Then try playing the movie in windows media player classic that comes with k lite mega codec pack.
2. check your system for trojan , virus or any program that is using system resources. Often Video problems are caused by insufficient resources available by video/audio decoders.
3. System stand by could be missing because your bios settings dont allow it. Enter the BIOS and reset settings to default.

Compaq DVD Player problem

You need a new DVD codec. If you have a copy of WinDVD, give it an install. Otherwise, try the free codec on www.divx.com.
