MP 160 Cannon Printer Won't Scan

When I try to scan some pictures to put on to my computer, the scanner doesn't do anything. No noises, light, nothing. But when I try to copy them, the scanner starts moving, but immediately starts to print. Can anyone help me scan photos? I'm very frustrated.

Try checking if you have completely installed all the drivers for your printer. scanning and copying dont usually needs drivers because you can do that even without a computer. but scanning requires your scanner to be read by your pc. try checking for the scanner driver from the cd that came from your printer.

Make sure the printer can copy (without computer). If you can make copies, the problem may be the computer or the USB cable. If the printer does not copy also. The problem is in the scanner or in the flat cable.

Try to adjust the scanner resolution

Solution: Adjusting Output (Scan) Resolution (Windows) - MP150 / MP170 / MP450 / MP500 / MP800 / MP950

Adjusting Output (Scan) Resolution By changing the resolution, you can set how clear the image is going to be.
The higher the resolution, the clearer (but the larger) the scanned image is.
The resolution can be changed before scanning. (Note)
If the resolution is doubled, the image data will be quadrupled.
If the data is large, problems such as slow processing speed or lack of memory may occur.

To change standard scan settings using MP Navigator, click here
To change more advanced scan settings using the scanner driver, click here
Using MP Navigator
  1. Place the document face-down on the platen glass.

  2. Launch MP Navigator.
    1. On the Windows desktop, double-click the 'MP Navigator 2.0' icon.
    2. Alternatively, in the Windows taskbar, click 'Start', click '(All) Programs', 'Canon Utilities', 'MP Navigator 2.0' folder, then 'MP Navigator 2.0' icon.

  3. Click 'Scan Photo/Document'.

I have a canon MG5220 printer and unable to scan properly the messages I receive are saying Scanner turned off, disconnected from LAN, code 2,145,50. Printing pictures and all other printing jobs work...

Regarding the Cannon scanner error 2145,50. I note you have tried to fix this, but failed. The actual problem is that the scanner will not communicate with the computer correctly if it is connected through a USB hub. A direct connection to the computer cures it.
I know, I had that problem. I am a retired elctronics design engineer.

I have a cannon MP 160 printer/scanner. It does not work on a Mac

Uninstall all your drivers (and delete the preferences) and download the Mac drivers from this link. The drivers that came with your printer were developed before Snow Leopard came out.

I press scan but nothing happens I scan on cannon Mp 160 and I cant scan with my pc

Make sure the scanner is connected to your laptop/PC before you press 'scan' and is turned on.
Pressing the scan option will start Canan's software MP Navigator for scanning. You can also start MP Navigator on your PC and then start scanning directly from your program or from the printer button.
