Question about HP Pavilion ZV5000, ZV6000, ZX5000 Series 12 Cell Li-Ion Battery - DP390A (DP390A1) CD-ROM Drive

Will not start up!

I have an HP ZV5000. Never had any problems before. Pushed the power button, the hard drive spins for two seconds and the fan kicks on, then shuts off. As a result the screen does not even flicker. I have extremely important data saved on the hard drive and would like to retrieve it. Have any suggestions?

Hello Clintmolly!,
I suggest that since your screen doesn't "light up", you 1.) Determine the exact model of hard drive the unit uses, you can get that information online at the HP website or by physically removing the access panel from the underside of the laptop.  Once you've gotten that information I suggest that you locate another unit of similar size and purchase it.  ( I purchased a Drive replacement doubling the original size for about $60.00, I have a zv6000 ).

2.) For 39.00 investment you can purchase from Apricorn, http://www.apricorn.com, a USB interface that will allow you to connect the existing drive to the system.  After installing the replacement drive you acquired from step 1. ibid.  I suggest installing a new OS to the newly installed drive after installing and properly BOOTing the system you will be able to access your files by way of the Interface from Apricorn.

Actually once the existing Hard Drive has been removed you can use any computer with the Apricorn interface to access your files. Assuming that you don't care about the "Sick System."

THIS METHOD WORKS - PERIOD.

BTW if you don't have an OS to load you can use any freely available one such as LINUX.  You will have to learn a few commands but your files will be accessible.  The assumption here is that the original Hard Drive is properly functional, i.e. some other hardware failure has occured that has forestalled the system from properly BOOTing and that the original system's Hard Drive is otherwise functional.

Good Luck!,

Cheers,

Hi my HP Pavillion ZV5000 fan runs loudly after a period of time and then shuts off. Probably due to over heating.i also already have cleaned the fans. Is there any solutions?

When the CPU overheats then it will shutdown (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down.If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes this problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan. If the fan and heat sink is clogged withdust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use acan of compressed air to do this.

I would try the following steps, then contact HP (if these don't work, chances are it's hardware related).
1) Remove the battery and power cable. 2) Hold down the power button for 3 seconds. 3) Reattach the power cable and battery. 4) Try to boot again.

Check the Leds on laptop. Try to turn on the laptop with just the a/c adapter. Disconnect battery,a/c adapter and drain flea power by holding power button for 15 second. Connect /ac adapter and check. Disconnect harddrive and memory from laptop.Reconnect and try to reboot.Possible issue with motherboard.

HP Pavilion Laptop zv5000 wont power on. NOT power cord problem.

I think your motherboard has gone bad, even though you hear a fan working, its just on a hot wire on the motherboard.

ZD7000 Lights, no fans, power switch not working.............

Dismantled notebook thinking compressed air removed component or connection. Nothing. Reassembled most of notebook. Left battery and power disconnected for 6.5 hours, I later plugged only AC power into unit. Fans started spinning. Completed assemble of notebook and installed the battery. Blue lights returned. Problem seems to be the battery. Shorts out something and needs about 6 hours drain out. Works great now without battery, using AC power only. Ordered new battery.....
