The manual for your motherboard states:

For dual-channel memory configuration (2), you may:

• install identical DIMMs in all four sockets OR

• install an identical DIMM pair in DIMM_A1 and DIMM_B1 (yellow

sockets) and another identical DIMM pair in DIMM_A2 and

DIMM_B2 (black sockets)

* Always use identical DDR2 DIMM pairs for dual-channel model. For

optimum compatibility, we recommend that you obtain memory modules
from the same vendor.

Hi I have inherited an asus m2n mxse mobo with an unknown cpu in and fan, supposedly working. I have a stick of 1 gb kingston ram (DDR2-800 KVR800D2NG) in 1 slot. The board won't start, even into bios,it...

pj, the manual specifies, See page Viii and page
1-3. for the memory supported by the M2M-MX SE MB uses: Dual-channel memory. 2x240-pin DIMM up to a max of 2GB. Non-ECC 800/667/533 MHz
All dual channel memory comes in pairs. Also see page 1-13 before installing you're memory.
SS memory should be inserted into DIMM_1.
DS memory should be inserted into DIMM__1 and DIMM_2.
Provided below is Asus updated QVL list.
http://dlsvr04.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socketAM2/M2N-MX%20SE/M2N-MX_SE_QVL.pdf
If you wish to install Kingston you'll need to buy,
KVR800D2NG not KVR800D2N5 as shown in the QVL list. Ran a search through Kingston’s site. Seems the memory you bought is not supportive for Asus MBs.

Gigabyte ep45ud3p will not boot just installed

A friend of mine just purchased one of these boards and is extremely impressed with it but when he first bought it he bought some lower grade ram and had a lot of troubles with it. He went to Kingston ram DDR2 1366 and it ran perfectly. I don't know what kind you bought but the board is very picky about the ram. The other thing to try is unplugging the hard drives, cdrom and any add on cards except video and see if it boots. up. If this works then add your harddrives, cd and addons back one at a time.

1GB seen as 512Mb

I think you are right, you have to update your BIOS, or try to change your Kingston to Super Talent or other compatible with your motherboard ram. Good luck!

Bios changes

What are you changing? The motherboard or one of the peripherals such as memory or video card or drive controller may not like the setting or may be incompatible with certain options causing the problem. You may also want to see if there is a bios update to address the issue.

Good luck.

Dual Channel for DDR os not function

The problem might be your ram are not dual channel. Dual channel ram are usually matched in pairs in speed and size of modules ( 2 modules of 1gigs or 2modules of 512). Check out crucial technology site in the support section either F&Q or live chat with them....Doc

Installed new RAM, PC would not boot up.

Will the PC boot? It may just be loose. Try it again. The PC may not boot if it does'nt recognize the memory.

Motherboard ASUS P5RD1-VM ram problem

More people should complain with Asus support. Checking Asus forums, you'll find there's an obvious problem with a PCI-E video addon + 2 used memory slots. In my case, I had 2Gb (1 + 1), mb with bios version 1104, and it worked fine; when I installed a new PCI-E card, the system was very... very sluggish. Now I have uninstalled 1 memory, I'm using only 1Gb of RAM with the PCI-E card, and it's working well.

Again: checking Asus forum, this is a reported problem, and a bios bug... Asus should release a new bios version, but they seem not to bother, as this is a relatively "old' mb...
