THERE'S GOT TO BE A SOLUTION TO MY LAPTOP PROBLEM,I KEEP GETTING THIS MESSAGE, "THE COMPUTER RESTARTED UNEXPECTEDLY OR AN UNEXPECTED ERROR. WINDOWS INSTALLATION CANNOT PROCEED TO INSTALL WINDOWS,...

The problem is caused by a damaged Windows installation CD.
There are some files that cannot be read from CD, so Windows gets stuck.
It tries to restart to continue with installation, and keeps doing this on an endless loop.

Solution:
Get a goos Windows Installation CD and start from scratch, (format and load the new copy of Windows)

My notebook suddenly shut down itself, then after i restart, it show select which drive to boot (but no option to let me select). Then i try to reformat it, but it show no harddisk install? i have try...

> no option to let me select

This means that no "bootable" CD-ROM was loaded into the CD-drive, *AND* that the "bootable" files could *NOT* be read from the disk-drive.

> it show no hard-disk install

Well, it shows that either:
* no electrical power is reaching the disk-drive
* the electronics "underneath" the spinning-part of the disk-drive have failed
* the "spinning" part of the disk-drive is not spinning (dead motor?)
* the disk is spinning, but nothing can be read from the disk-drive.

Try connecting the disk-drive to another computer.
If it is detected, that's good.
If not, then your disk-drive has a BIG problem,
and replacing it (with or without exercising any "warranty'") is your only way to move forward.

I have a Toshiba A45-S121 laptop. I upgraded my hard drive from a 40GB hard drive to a 320GB Western Digital. Loaded Windows XP and formated drive in FPTS format. The computer rebooted to the hard drive...

Best possible solution put back your 40GB and try to get an external casing for your 320GB to see if it works. And try windows on NTFS instead of FPTS, so reformat your 320GB and install the Windows XP again.
I hope this solution is helpful.

Can,t boot up from cd/dvd player to format hard drive and install new operating system seems like their is a lock on the hard drive because i tried to reformat it on my other laptop and was also...

that would be in Device Manager not BIOS. there is no BIOS that i am away of that will show a ! on a drive nor lock out a CD Rom drive.

if you tried to format a computer with a disk and it didn't work in 2 different computers, it has nothing to do with the drive and all to do with the disk. Is this disc authentic pressed or is it burned?

Get a new disc and try again.

If this is an external CDROM that you are hookign up, then you need to make sure the drive is working correctly or the cable is not damaged.

Is the hard drive seen in the system bios?Once you upgraded the hard drive did you re-install the operating system.Remember this,,, if the operating system on the drive belonged to another system you will encounter issues when the bios and the new hard drive starts to interact resulting .If you have data on this drive make a back up so you may restore it once the new operating system is installed.
Good luck
