Does the drive door not open and close, or does the drive not appear at all in My Computer? If it is the latter, take a look at this thread:

My pc doesn t boot from cd driver

If you are using a CD drive, it is probably just too old and can't read anything anymore. Try running an Optical Drive (CD) cleaning disc in it.

Cd player dont work

Is it a CD player? Are you trying to play DVDs? Does the CD player show up in device manager? (Right click "My Computer", click Properties, Hardware Tab, Device Manager. If it doesn't show up at all then the drive probably needs to be replaced.

I have a Sony PC with a 24 inch screen. My CD/DVD slot is on the right side. After downloading a cd, I couldn't eject it. I even tried going to my computer, going to the driver and pressing eject,...

A lot of times on a CD Drive there is a small hole near the eject button. If you push the end of a paperclip or needle or toothpick into this hole usually the drive will open. If that doesn't open it, you may have to take apart the computer and cd drive to get the cd out.

I assume Dban worked.....worked so well I am froze at there very first screen {biostar mobo logo} and cant get any farther to load OS or even to the CMOS to even check settings......help pls

Once the drive is wiped that's about as far as one can get because there is no longer an OS to load. Power down the computer. Then turn it back on while hitting the "del" key repeatedly. If del doesn't work try the "F" keys, usually F2. Once in the BIOS, set the boot order for the cd/dvd drive to boot first. Exit using F10 to save. Insert your CD/DVD that has your operating system in the drive and reboot to install the new OS.

If you still can't get into the BIOS, power down the computer, unplug the power cord, remove the side panel and then remove the CMOS battery for 3 or 4 minutes. Put the battery back in and repeat the above instructions.

No all cds/dvd work in all cd/dvd drives. I suspect your drive cannot read that make of cd although anothers cd rom can. Try making a copy of the disk on someone elses pc and try that in yours and you will probably find it works. You could always copy the cd to a pen drive and install it on yours from that.

Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.
Hope this helps

BUILD MY FIRST COMPUTER COMPUTER COMES ON ALL LIGHTS LIGHT UP USB PORTS WORK BUT NOTHING COMES ON THE MONITOR AND THE KEYBOARD AND MOUSE DOES NOT LIGHT UP I HAVE A GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD3 MOTHER BOARD INTEL...

Hello volovending, it 'sound' like you done a "Great" job on building your [First] Computer, Congradulations! Now, one of the "Most" important things to do is "Run the CDs that came with the Motherboard, Keyboards, Mouse, DVD Player, and Graphic Card; if you have brought them 'separately,' ther should be one for {each item}. If you brought the [Package] as a "Bundle Item," then the "Motherboard CD should provide most of the Hardware and Software Drivers" The Drivers are needed for the CPU to 'communicate' with the Computer Components, or 'simply' put; Work Properly. These instructions should help fix the problem. 1. First, "Shut-Down the Computer. 2. Un-Plug the Computer from the "wall power outlet." 3. Next, Plug the Computer back into the "Power Outlet." 4. Restart the Computer. 5. If the Computer startup without any trouble? Continue! 6. What {Type of Operating System} did you install? Example: Windows7, Vista, or XP...? This is just a ? Its not that important just yet. Important: If you have "Downloaded the CDs Hardware and Software Driver? If not find the CDs; try to 'use the CD Tray to Downlaod them. If you are having a problem with the DVD Drive? Do the following. 7. "Shut-down the Computer again. 8. "Unplug from the (Power Cord) from the outlet." Note: You will have to remove / disconnect (all) the [Cables] and Power Connections from the DVD Player. 9. Reattach all cables and wiring, plug the Computer back in, and "Restart the Computer" 10. Try "loading the CDs for all the Computer Parts, again. Once you have "finished loading all the Drivers;" restart the Computer again! If all goes well? Then your Computer should work fine. "I hope this information is helpful? Thanks for using FixYa, paul7of9."

HOW I DOWLOAD MY COMPUTER PICTURE TO A CD

  1. Check your computer to see that it has a CD or DVD drive that is capable of burning CDs. This drive may be built into your computer or an external drive. Either type should work equally well.
  2. Make sure you have a CD that can be burned. There are two types of CDs that you can use.
    1. A CD-R (Compact Disc-Recordable) is a Write Once Read Many (WORM) optical medium. This means that once the disk is burned it can not be erased. This type disk is usually used for permanent storage. For example; a music CD, a picture CD, or any other type of data that you want to keep permanently.
    2. A CD-RW (Compact Disc ReWritable) is a rewritable optical disc format. This type of disk can be burned, erase, and then burned again. This type disk is usually used for temporary data storage.
  3. Decide on the type of CD you plan to burn. There are many different types of CDs that can be burned and how you proceed depends on which type you are going to burn. The major types of CD that can be burned are:
    1. Music. This type of CD is the type of CD that is normaly burned for use in a home or automobile CD player.
    2. Data. This type of CD is most often used to store files that can be used by a computer. This type of CD can not be used in a standard home or automobile CD player. They are formatted using the "ISO9660" format, which cannot be read by a standard CD player.
    3. MP3. This is a data CD containing only mp3 compressed music files. Because it is actually an ISO9660 data CD, not all CD players will be able to play it. This type of CD can contain a much larger number of songs than a music CD but can only be played on a computer or CD player specifically designed to play MP3s.
    4. Disk image. A disk image file is a file that contains an exact copy of a disk. The most common type of Disk image is an .ISO image. Disk images are usually used for storing an exact copy of a CD on a computer. By using a computer, one can burn a CD from an .ISO image and create a usable CD.
    5. Ripping. Ripping a CD is the process of taking the audio off of one CD and either storing it on a computer or burning it to a second CD, thereby making a copy of the first CD.

  4. Decide on the software you want to burn your CD with. There are many different programs that are designed to burn CD's. Some are built into the computer's operating system, while others are individual programs. These programs range from very simple to very complex. Some of these are free, while others have to be purchased.

  5. Burn your CD. Burning your CD is as simple as running the software that you are going to burn your CD with, putting a CD into your CD burner, selecting the data to be burned, and then telling the program to burn the CD

During the boot press the F12 key to select your boot option and choose your CD drive. Depending on your system it could be the F10 key, it should display the option during the post.

no this is not the problem with any motherboard r with hard disks this is the problem with the cdrom drive ... the capability of the reading cds is less of the cd rom u r using in this first system ... once you just have a check by removing the cdrom drive of the second computer & inserting into the first comp... it will surely read that cd....
this means it s the timt to change the cdrom of the first computer .. so just buy new 1..........
