After more than 2 years in storage, new batteries failed to get a flash from Vivitar 283. Battery cartridge contacts were vigorously cleaned as were the contacts inside the 283. Any ideas what to do next? Alan Kerr (akerr@juno.com)

Used to use one a long time ago. The problem is caused by poor battery connections. I can remember cleaning and bending the tabs for hours to get it working reliably again.
