Problems with Samsung Combo drive

Hello,

I have a Samsung 52X 24X 52X 16X Combo drive.  Although it still reads DVDs
(play movies), it recently lost the ability to read normal CDR or music CDs.
The drive's light blinks a few times when trying to read or write data
before giving out.

Has anyone had this experience before?  It does seem odd that it can still
read DVDs.

I have sent it back to the store I bought it from as the drive is still
under warranty.   I should hear something from them in a couple of weeks.

Not with a Samsung, but my original Plextor 708A did the exact same thing.
It refused to read/write to CDRs, but would still read/write DVDs.

I have the same problem (in reverse) with a LG GCC-4320B: it reads CDs fine,
burns CD-R no problem, but nothing happens when I insert a DVD-ROM inside.

Question: could you get your drive fixed or did you have to file it neatly
in file-13?
