Question about Compaq Presario M2000 Notebook

1 Answer

Cant See Post

So when I boot up my Presario M2000, It beeps twice and then flashes something very quickly (cant see what it says). Then the screen goes black with the words: Press to resume, to setup

The Keyboard does light up when you boot the laptop up. No matter what i press nothing happens.

Any Suggestions?

cant be the video card because i see the first screen it goes to continue or setup... but i cant get into bios, or boot menu.. and when the resume or setup comes up no matter what i press it just stays on that screen.. i will throw a windows disc in there see if that works.

Do you still have your Windows disc. The boot is making it thru the hardware checking stage, that's why your keyboard lights up, the files it needs to bring up your operating system are not working as they are probably corrupt. So you can't get into Safe Mode by pressing F8 either? Let me know, if you can get to safe mode we can fix it a lot easier.

The 2 beeps are an error code. It can mean a couple of things; 1. Bad or improperly seated RAM; or 2. Bad or improperly seated video card. The F2 option will take you into bios setup. But I would try the video card option first as it is the usual culprit in this situation. Hope this helps & please rate this solution fixya. Thanks.

Hello. I have a Compaq Presario m2000. Just starting today whenever i turn on my computer, it stays on the screen where the BIOS process runs. If I'm right, thats when it shows the screen where it says...

That means you have a bad ram memory. some times with just take them out from the slot and put them back in will fix that kind of problem. however if you have a bad memory you will need to buy them.

you ram memory should be located at back of your laptop. you will need a screw driver to open it. is really easy to do it.

hope this help

A INCH OF MY SCREEN TURNED BLACK

Just reset your laptop DPI and turn the screen menu.

If this cant solve the problem, maybe your screen is broken.

Tried everthing just cant get this thing to boot up

Sounds like you may need your screen replaced.

Upon turning on your laptop,
Keep pressing F8, until you hear a beep. This will give you the option to boot to safe mode. When you hear a beep, and NOTHING comes on your screen within 20 seconds, you need to have your LCD screen replaced.

Typically if its a hardware problem such as RAM, you'll hear 2 beeps or a POST message will display on your screen, letting you know that a certain piece of hardware failed.

Ive seen problems occur when people change a setting such as :
Right click on your desktop --> Properties --> Settings --> Advanced Button

And changing your DPI. This can cause your screen to go out (Not display anything). If its up to high chances are your LCD screen can not handle it. If you boot to safe mode, then you can fix this. Again if you cant boot to safe mode, then you have a mad LCD.

Give this a try and let me know what happens.

Oh one more things.

One thing i have also seen, more than once, and till this day i can not explain it, but a USB device plugged in. Remove ANY USB device plugged to your computer. Printer, FLASH Drive, Mouse, etc. Then turn on your computer.

If you have a floppy drive, remove the floppy.
If you have a CD/DVD in your tray, turn the computer on to take it out.
