Hold the power button down for 10-15 seconds
if that doesnt work (but it should) then use a paperclip and push the button in the hold at the bottom of the flip. (this will be inside the part for the tripod :D

The lcd flips up from the back. Grip the screen firmly with your thumb on the bottom and flip the screen up and toward you.
This video shows a brief overview of the camera's operation.
Yes, you can hook up your Flip to play on your PC and watch the video on a larger screen.
1. Plug the Flip into the USB port. 2. Go into your "start menu" by clicking on the windows icon in the lower left-hand corner of your desktop. 3. Select "computer." 4. Under your "C" drive, you should see your flip listed as a removable drive. 5. Open that drive, find your video file, double-click on it and wait a few seconds. 6. The video should open and you will be able to watch it on your desktop.
(If you have a large file, you should upload it to YouTube, wait a while until it renders, then watch it on YouTube. Your PC generally will only show relatively short videos.)
To fix, I held the on/off button down for an extended time (around 10 secs approx) until it finally turned off. Left it alone for a few minutes and then turned back on. Worked okay. Also got a response from flipshare support who said there is a reset button inside the tripod space, use a pin to press that and then fully recharge camera via USB slot on PC.
I fixed mine! When I turned it on it only had the flip logo on the screen & it would only shut off if I took the batteries out. I tried everything - holding the on switch for 30 sec, holding the record button & the on switch for 30 sec, deleting every bit of data from the camera, reinstalling the software onto the camera, leaving the batteries out for a month... I took it apart & found a burnt spot on the motherboard. I scraped it with a pocket knife, put it back together & now it works like new!
I think you can use doremisoft flip converter that can crop your black bars and other addition editing functions, such as cut clips, join videos, add special effect and so on. YOU can free download at: http://www.flip-converter.com/article-flip-mac/flip-video-to-avi-converter-mac/ have a try.
Hi lois -
I hope this answers your Flip question or helps anyone having this problem of thier Flip having no display but it still has sound coming out. My experience is with the Flip that takes batteries not the Mino, I have the Ultra Series. I use rechargable batteries and everytime they run out I know it becaue my video goes black or I get weird lines on it and mostly black. If your batteries are low, you are supposed to get a warning light telling you, but my batteries often die so quickly there is no warning. It will go from operating fine to black screen without any 'batteries are low' indicator. Also, if you can watch video (or just have it on) but when you try to record the video locks up and blacks out, it possibly is because your batteries are weak. This happens to me. Overall, I really think my Flip is the coolest device to come out in years. For me and I am sure a lot of users the Flip has made camcorders super simple, portable. A camcorder that I use almost daily now. Its what camcorders should have been like from the beginning, convienient. It has (basically) no moving parts so unless you are hard on your buttons or drop it a lot (mine has survived hitting concrete a few times) there really isn't anything to break. As for the black screen, I say try first things first, get a new set of DURACELL batteries or some freshly charged nicads and try them. I know you probably think it can't be that simple (or I can't be that...). I thought the same thing, "My flip is broken!" Its probably just fine, it just needs some fresh juice! SAM
There's a hidden Reset button at the bottom of the Flip Mino. At the bottom of the camera, there is a screw base a tripod. Inside of that screw base there is a little hole. Use a paperclip and poke it into the hole. Hold it there for 7 seconds. You may need to repeat this process 3-4 times. This should shut down the video camera.
I have the same problem and found something that kinda worked for me. Hopefully it'll work for someone else. Turn on the flip while holding down the - key. It should power up normally and allow you to view/record etc. Several videos say "Invalid Format" or something like that on the screen, but most are ok and I can record. Better than a completely dead one.
