Re: Working on my HD52W67....Question!
Hi, define what your working on ? In general if the AC cords been removed for half an hour the only "stored voltages" will be in the larger electrolytic capacitors which can bite you pretty good but only if you get one hand on the positive pin and one hand on ground, using common sense is your best approach, use one hand to probe around inside the set and discharge large value caps with a high wattage resistor before removing them, video-tek

Simple. You DO NOT ! I repeat DO not attempt this.
RCA has some of the most difficult Service menus in the industry.
Plus Service menus will not solve any service problem.
They are for setting up a working TV only.
Call an RCA Service center.
I'm having the same problem with my RCA HD52W67 rear projection TV and I've notice this problem is listed with my other owners of this product. I have no experience with fixing electronics. Sould I try this myself or take it to an expert? Has anyone fixed this problem? What is an estimated cost involved, if I take my set to an expert? Any advice with the HD52W67 is great appreciated.
Okay, usually the parts that go bad to make the convergence option drop from the menu are the following. Fusible Link (FL1231) Diode (DP1231) and capacitor ( C1230) the numbers in parenthesis are the actual component locations on the board. These items fail causing the set to think its a direct view set instead of a projection unit.
The Model # is wrong it Must be HD52W67 0r HD56W66. Set is going to shut down, unfortunately the trouble to me in many different areas you need to call an authorized RCA repair shop and have the unit trouble shot.
They only way to really narrow down a service problem such as a dead set would be to first get a downloadable schematicfor like 20 bucks, I have seen them even less expensive! Then start troubleshooting the power supply to see if the SMPS is functioning or shut down because of excessive current draw or a short circuit somewhere else in the set. If you get a schematic and need a hand I will be happy to point you in several spots that need to be checked first BUT you must be aware of the HIGH VOLTAGE thats stored inside these sets even when they are unplugged,, If it bits you, You will know it!! believe you me!!! Good Luck
