Question about NRS SPO Medical 903036 Check Mate Pulse Oximeter

No reading for the blood oxygen level

I have just replaced the battery in my Chckmate oximeter. When placing my finger into the monitor, I see the following: SPO, then a beating heart, then a pulse rate which is much higher than the actual rate, then a correct pulse rate, then with two dashes in the Oxygen level indicator and then almost immediately followed by 3 dashes in the pulse rate indicator. The back up light is working. I do not have the manual that came with this product so I don't know what the 3 various symbols at the very top, which appear, are indicating. Can you help??
Thank you. Blanche Matthews

I have the same problem, except that I did not replace the battery, Thie indicator says the battery is fine. I cleaned the inside as best I could without any swabs or alcohol, and tried it again, and it worked ok - once - then it started to do the same thing you descirbe - the heart flashes, the pulse rate reading jumps around and is obviously wrong, and the oxygen does not indicate at all. The indicator at the top, when on, says it means a 'weak signal.' But there is no clue how to make the signal strong. I plan to use alcohol tomorrow and swab out the finger insertion area and see if that fixes it or not. I do not have any with me - I am traveling and in a hotel. I think that something needs cleaning in there, but it is just a guess. the instructions can be downloaded easily and they say how to clean it, so I will try that.

OK - I had the exact same problem. I cleaned the inside of the oximeter with a cotton swab and denatured alcohol. Then tried it. It did not work. Darn. But I tried it an hour later, and suddenly, it started to work perfectly. I do not know what went wrong, and why it did not work immediately after cleaning. Maybe it was still damp from the alcohol? Unlikely, but I cannot figure out anything else. Anyway, try that and see if it solves the problem for you, and if the oximeter does not work for the first hour or so after cleaning, don't give up on it. Good luck.

How do I open battery compartment & install batteries in ChoiceMMed Oxywatch CF309 which is a Pulse Oxymeter

I have the same model. Flip unit ove so you can see bottom. Hold your thumb on the side with the arrows (but don't wrap your thumb around too much. Just enough to hold that side.) Hold the other side with your index finger. Squeeze thumb and finger together while pulling back towards you on Thumb side. Hope that helps.

What exactly is a pulse oximeter?

A pulse oximeter is a medical device that indirectly monitors the oxygen saturation of a patient's blood (as opposed to measuring oxygen saturation directly through a blood sample) and changes in blood volume in the skin, producing a photoplethysmogram.

My mother has a Digit Pulse Oxymeter and I was wondering how one knows if the %oxygen is reading correctly. Lately all her readings are always 97%. Very little variation.

The normal oxygen saturation in the body read by the any pulse oximeter whether it is portable or built in type is 95%-100%. If ***********'s oxygen reading as you have said is 97% definitely it is within the normal range. You can also check and make sure that your oximeter is working by placing the oximeter to your finger. If the pulse read by the oximeter is the same with your heartbeat it means that is working alright and the oxygen reading would fall between 95-100%. I hope my answers will help you.

While connected it says "please check connection and try again"

A few things could be going on.
First the unit
1. Remove and replace the battery to "reset" the unit.
2. If the batteries are old, they might need replaced.
3. If it has been used and is dirty, clean the sensors.
Second the finger
1. If there is poor circulation from: low heart rate, poor circulation, or cold fingers, the unit will have difficulty.
2. Dark pigmented skin can cause errors.
3. Fingernail polish will cause errors.

Heart rate monitor support

Yes. If you're trying to lose weight, consider a HRM that provides information about calories burned. If you're just getting started, a simple heart rate only monitor is your best bet. They're easy to program and there are no buttons to push. If you're an athlete who enjoys competition, consider a HRM that provides feedback from your workout. These advanced HRM's memorize your workouts (heart rates, lap times and time spent in your THR zone) and allow you to monitor your progress.
