Question about HP LaserJet 8100n Printer

1 Answer

Setting tray 2 as default

I have a HP LaserJet 8100n and tray 1 is set to "first" I would like for the default tray to be tray 2. I only want to use tray 1 when it is specifically chosen for labels. Is this possible?

Thank you so much, this was about to drive me crazy, every time I would put a label in tray 1 someone would print before I could get back to my printer and it would ruin my label. This will save me a lot of time and a lot of labels.

How do I change the default on my HP P30005dn to Tray 2?

Normal default on HP is tray 2, however if you do not have that tray set for plain paper letter size the printer will default to whichever tray has letter plain paper installed. You should also check your print driver default settings to ensure that tray 2 is set as default tray.

HP Color Laserjet CP2025n Load Paper

In XP, go to settings; control panel; printers& faxes; then left click your printer and select "Properties". Click the "Device Settings" tab and you should be able to figure it out from there, by clicking the trays and selecting "not available". I have that same printer and I just did it with mine so I know it can be done.

At work I have a LaserJet and for some reason it will only print from "tray 2" opposed to the normal "tray 1." How do you switch trays?

first what size is tray 1 set for and the type. generally tray 1 is set for letter size and the type is plain and usually is the normal default configuration.
also check the tray guides for proper setting letter size..

Also if possible run a configuration page to see how your current paper handling settings are being read by your printer.

the MP Tray is generally setup as ANY Size and ANY type always.

check your paper handling setup settings..there are additional steps, let me know.

On the printer drivers, if you go to the settings, you can change the default. It should be under a setting called paper.

HP color laserjet 4600 dn printer How do I set

From the control panel of the printer, do the following:
1. arrow down once to highlight the 2nd item: "paper handling".
2. press the check button (turquoise color) to select this option.
3. arrow down 2x's until you highlight the "tray 2 size".
4. hit the check button to select this item.
5. You should see a size that is "letter" and there should be a ' * ' asterisk which means that is the default setting. If you see other paper sizes as well, then arrow up or arrow down to highlight the preferred size, and then press the check button to insert the asterisk ' * ' which will set that as the default.
6. you change the paper type as well as paper size for the other trays in the same fashion. Most HP printers will select paper according to the SIZE as well as the TYPE. The printer can "sense" the paper size in the paper cassette tray by the stops that hold the paper. Therefore the printer will choose that paper based upon the SIZE and what you define as its type.

HP Laserjet 4700 Always Defaults to Tray 1

Your tray 1 might be open (even just partially) or your manual feed setting might be on. You can find this setting under > Configure device / Printing / Manual Feed

Hp laserjet must manually push button to print

Hi,

Please print a configuration page from the control panel of the printer
- Menu > Information menu > print configuration.
- Check for paper handling details.
Following setting should reflect.
Tray 1: Any size / Any Type
Tray 2: A4 size / Plain Type

If the above settings are not reflecting in the configuration page, please change accordingly by browsing on the control panel of the printer to:
Paper Handling Menu >
Tray 1 Size: Any
Tray 1 Type: Any
Tray 2 Size: A4
Tray 2 Type: Plain

Let me know if that helps to solve the issue.

Regards,
Nikhil.

Won't print to right tray

I had this problem and solved it like this:

  1. Right click on printer driver in printers and faxes.
  2. Select printing preferences
  3. Choose paper quality tab
  4. Set paper size (A4 in my case)
  5. Set paper source to printer-auto-select. This is different from the default "Automatically select"

As long as tray 1 is empty, tray 2 should now kick in. Setting the paper source as tray 2 didn't work at all.

You seem to have to set this on each client computer though - even if you are sharing the printer over a network (4200n).

I need tray 2 to be my default printing tray but someone has changed this setting and I don't know how to get it back. The printer in question is HP LASERJET P3005d.

I don't know if this is an HP-approved solution but I fixed mine by setting the tray 1 paper size to "Custom" (instead of letter).
