Question about Sagem PVR 6280 Freeview DTV Receiver / 40-Hours Video Recorder

1 Answer

No power to pvr 7280T

My Sagem pvr7280T has failed after a recent cut in my mains electricity supply. There is no red light on the box. I have tried changing the fuse in the wall plug, but to no avail. Is the box itself likely to be blown? or might it just be the separate transformer unit?

Hello there welcome to FixYa this is a strong possiblity that the box itself has blown normally the capacitors swell up over time in the unit and this occurs when the unit has been left on non stop ether on standby or just on and when you have a power cut or a surge this is enough to blow the caps , open the receiver and look around the area where the power lead goes in this is a good place to start looking for swollen caps here is a picture of wat the caps will look like swollen and exploded http://members.datafast.net.au/dft0802/puscap.jpg

if you have this inside like the pic (picture not of your reciver) you can start to replace them one at a time make sure you get the right value of cap to swap like for like and make sure you get the legs on the caps the write way round - and +
once all swollen caps have been replaced try the unit again this should work a treat

hope this helps GoodLuck

Used 12v power supply and only get a yellow flashing light

If you used the wrong power supply, it has probably blown an internal regulator in the Sagem. It may be fixable by a someone who can solder a new component in for you.

I have an error code 01 on my sagem PVR set top box. The manual says perform a programme search then doesn't indicate how. i have tried to press the menu to get the original installation but nothing...

Unplug the box from the mains and leave fro 15 mins. Unplug the antenna (aerial), plug back into the mains and switch on. It will show 09 error; ignor. Press ók'on the remote. The box will reset and reboot into stby. Plug antenna back in and switch on. With a bit of luck you will be able to do an automatic channel scan (refer to your manual).
Er 01 refers to a failed upgrade, so you may have corrupted firmware, which is not good.

How do I reset my sagem freeview

If I'm correct, then your box has frozen since a recent retune and is possibly (but not necessarily) displaying error codes 07 and 09. if this is the case then there is nothing you can do by way of a reset to remedy the fault.

If so, a number of Sagem models have shown incompatibilities with the recent Freeview retune, and your model (PVR 6280) is specifically listed as one ofthose affected (seehttp://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/bsp/hi/pdfs/01_10_09_freeview2.pdf ). Sagem are not the only ones, better known brands had problems as well.

The official advice is to contact Sagem directly on 0845 0900 316 to find out if they've scheduled an OAD (over air update).

If I'm wrong in my initial assumption and all you wish to perform is a straight system reset for any other reason then all you do is to switch the box on and then unplug it from the mains and from the aerial, leave it for five minutes to allow internal capacitors to discharge, and then refit the aerial plug and reconnect the mains power to it.

I hope that you've foundmy posting to be of use and ask only that you return the favour byrating my answer.

Your question is posted under the heading Sagem PVR 6280 so I'll assume that's the model which you have.

The Sagem PVR 6280 is specifically listed as a model which will have problems with the retune.

Seethe address below for a chart of affected models, but the officialadvice is that you must contact Sagem directly on 0845 0900 316 foreither an over the air update or an update DVD depending upon themanufacturer.

I need code for sagem free view box to retune it!!

I think that you must be referring to the security PIN code for your box as no code is needed for the update itself. Sagem use a default PIN code of 1234 and a few use 1111. If these don't work then search for others but ultimately there is a jumper switch inside the unit on the main circuit board which can be used to clear the PIN code. Note that if you do this on a DIY basis then you should ensure the unit is physically disconnected from the power supply and that you use an anti static mat or wrist strap to prevent damage. If you get a professional to do this expect to pay at least £30 - £40; this is around half the cost of the box when it was new and it will not still allow you to successfully update.

The Sagem PVR 6280 is specifically listed as a box which will have updating problems, so DO NOT update it yet if you wish to avoid loss of functionality. The official advice is to phone Sagem directly on 0845 0900 316 to see if they have a fix yet, but as thousands of their boxes are affected the phone line is very busy this week.

Please see the address below for the official list of affected Freeview boxes:-

I don't know my receiver code, i've tried putting in 1234 and 0000 but the it just keeps coming up with bad code please try again

Your question is listed under Sagem PVR6280 so I'll assume that's what you have. What follows also applies to the 6240, 6200 and 6200t.

There is another default code of 1111, if this does not work then there is a jumper switch inside the box on the main circuit board which will clear whatever code has been previously set back to the default code.

Open the box at your own risk and ensure that you physically disconnect the box from the mains and use an anti-static mat or an anti-static wrist strap. From memory, I think that when the jumper has been altered the box needs to be briefly re-powered and then turned off to allow the jumper to be reset back as it was.

If your box is a Sagem 6240/6260 then DO NOT update it yet as these models are known to be incompatible with the update and will lose some functionality afterwards. The official advice is to contact Sagem directly on 0845 0900 316 to see if they have a fix yet, but the number is clearly going to be ridiculously busy this week at least as thousands of their boxes are affected.

Cut and paste the web address below into your browser for the official line:-

I left it plugged in while watching a DVD for about 90 min (as Sagem and DVD are all connected up with the TV). Afterwards I noticed the Sagem was now displaying Er09. I tried pressing the green button on remote control to activate the Sagem and hey presto everything came back on (with a message saying that the download was now complete). All back to normal now. I think the 00 and flashing dashes just meant that the Sagem was downloading and that this took longer than the specified ' few minutes'. Not sure what the 'improved DTV' was though - I can't see the difference!
