I have a model 560 Aprilaire humidifier thay doesn't work. I replaced the solonoid valve and it still doesn't work. What's my next move?

The system is 24 volt AC so start by checking the voltage from the transformer to make sure it is approximately 24 volts AC. The current will flow through the humidistat when continuity is made at the control as the humidistat senses that your house needs moisture. Disconnect the wires from the himidistat and set it to a high level, you should hear a click on the way up. With the 24 volt wires disconnected, check for continuity with a volt meter. If you don't have continuity replace it. Current also flows through an inductive sensor switch that hang on a wire from the blower. When the blower wire has current flowing through it, the switch senses that an closes makin the connection. With both wires disconnected from the 24 volts you can test for continuity when the blower is running. Overall, this is a continuous circle of wiring and is not directional like DC so think of the wiring a a big loop. The correct current has to flow through the transformer, through the humidistat, through the blower switch, through the solenoid completing the the circle before the solenoid will activate. Hope this helps.

When calling for heat and humidity I have 24v at the brown wires going to my Aprilaire, but the solenoid doesn't pick. Is it the control card or solenoid? Both are mounted on the Aprilaire unit. I have a...

If you have 24 volts to the solenoid, then it's not the control card. It's either the solenoid or there's an orifice in the water line at the solenoid that sometimes stops up. To check the solenoid you need to disconnect the power to the system and disconnect the solenoid wires (the two brown wires) and ohm the solenoid. If you get a low ohm reading around 50 ohms or then the solenoid is good and you need to check the orifice. If the ohm meter doesn't move when you ohm across both leads then it's the solenoid and it needs replaced.

Pressure switch

Hi AB, I am mr.grzz,
thanks for your questions, well first off there is no fixing the pressure switch, it will have to be replaced, you will need your model and serial number on the furnace, make of furnace, to order a new one from a parts supplier, fairly easy to replace.first make sure the power is off to the furnace, undo the two wire leads on it, then the two screws holding it in place, remove the one or two small hoses attached to it, if you remove it before you go to look for a part, that would be best, there is a rating on it, just follow these steps in reverse to put in place, hope that helped ya, thanks again, mr.grzz

Oven heating element works but gas wil not ignight

the oven ignitor has to consume 3.2 to 3.6 amps in order for the oven valve to open. The valve is a bi-metal valve; which means the proper amount of current must be drawn through the valve to warp the bi-metal and allow gas flow. Oven ignitors will glow bright but only pull around 2.8 amps, not enough to open the valve. In most cases this is the scenario. The only way to determine which is bad(ignitor or valve) is to check the amp draw of the ignitor using a clamp on meter. If the ignitor is flat in appearance it must pull 3.2 to 3.6 amps, if the ignitor is round it must pull 2.5 amps. Being a kenmore stove it could be built by frigidaire or many others for that matter, the model # indicates this, so be sure to check the amp draw if possible.I have seen many Frigidaire oven valves bad. However, 9 times out of 10 the ignitor is bad. If your model begins with 790. its a frigidaire, 362. its a roper/ge, 665. its a whirlpool built, 911. its a roper, etc. hope this helps...

Either you have a problem with the sensor or the control board. Try disconnecting the sensor and see if it come on. If it does change the sensor. If not it is the control.

Clean/refill light

My Slant Fin humidifier has a floating, ring-shaped magnetic level that isn't replaceable. You can't even tell it's magnetic until you cut off the piece that prevents the white plastic float from rising past a certain point. It turns out that there is a ring-shaped magnet in the float.

I found that the Refill light would go off when I held a strong magnet near the float device.

So, I have suspended the magnet with string from the top of the humidifier outside the humidifier.

Caution: This fix disables the safety feature inherent in the low level shut off. I wonder why the manufacturer uses material that corrodes?
