Question about Acer AOpen AX4BS-V (91.89J11.001) Motherboard

Electric on motherboard

Is there supposed to be a pin missing where the power comes from the front of the case, the pins that it plugs into the motherboard? There is two rows of pins and the bottom row has a pin missing The motherboard is Acer open AX4BS

    Ok I got the lil power things hooked up but when I try to turn it on all that happens is the fan on the CPU runs but the computer wont start......is this something I have done wrong?

Yes. usually. Most boards have pins missing. The board layout is for all boards,not all models. That is the reason that sometimes pins are missing. You will see layouts for other items(options) missing also.  Ido not have A drawing or picture of your particular board  though.

How do i connect this front usb cables,the mother board is ms 6533e ver10b


On the motherboard, looking at it from the front there should be 2 10 pin white usb headers to the left of the cmos battery labeled jusb2 and jusb3. There is a pin missing from each as well as a plugged hole on your connector coming from your front usb. Just line the missing pin up with the plugged hole on your connector. I'm going to presume that you have a tower or case that is the correct size.

First clean out the case of any junk, dust, etc. Then ground yourself to the case so as to dissipate any static electricity. I suggest you get a static clip for this.

Remove the motherboard from the static free film bag and locate the screw set bag. Most of the screws for ATX and Micro-ATX boards are standardized so it really doesn't matter which screws you use out of the bag. The vast majority of them should have a multi-head (phillips, flat, hex). Take the motherboard and gently place it in the case, making sure the case is on it's "back" so that the side you're mounting the motherboard to is flat on the ground.

Align the screw holes of the motherboard with the best fit of the screw holes found on the case. Note: If it is an intel based processor motherboard, you may need to mount the processor first and then the heat sync and fan before mounting it to the case, as it mounts directly to the motherboard. Since the Foxconn 761mx is an AMD board, this shouldn't be an issue.

Then locate your peripheral components (hard drive, optical drive, fans, heat sync, processor, ram, case fans, video card etc). Mount the AMD processor into the AM2 socket, making sure the socket handle is up or in the unlocked position. Once it is seated lock the processor into the socket by placing the handle down. Be firm but gentle in pushing the arm down. It should lock in smoothly, if you feel any major resistance, stop, release the handle and check to make sure the processor is in place correctly.

Once the processor is installed, cover the base of your heat sync with heat gel (Thermal Compound)(if it doesn't already have it, I suggest Arctic Silver~ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100007~ as it is superior than most of the preloaded gels).
Because this is an AM2 socket with a specialized clip, you'll find that it can be a little persnickety getting it on. The heat sync you have should tell you how to do it. If I remember correctly this particular clip you unscrew and loosen the side clips. The heat sync fits under this type and you then clamp it down. But I'm going off of a picture so I'm not exactly sure.

Once the heat sync is mounted and pressed firmly against your processor you're ready to situate your other components. Install your ram (making sure to match the notches to the spacer. This motherboard uses DDR2 ram so it's not that fast, but you have two slots to fill up to a max of 16 gb). Place your hard drives or SSDs into the drive bay where you'd like them to be, and place the optical drive into the optical drive bay. If you're going to install a zip drive or floppy drive (first why?) connect it to the black IDE connector. The primary hard drive on this motherboard can be either SATA or IDE. You can get SATA to IDE adapters if you need to have more than one SATA hard drive, or you can purchase a PCI-E SATA controller to expand the hard drive space.

Mount your video card in the PCI-Express X16 slot (the long yellow slot) and then mount your power supply in the specified space in the case. Finally mount your case fans. Usually one in the back below the power supply (if it's an upright case) and one in the front near the hard drive bay.

The power supply will have four screws (probably already in the case) that will hold it into place.

Now that all of your components are seated or mounted, it's time to connect the power supply to the components.

First locate the ATX power lead. This is pretty self explanatory. This will either be 12 by 2 or 8 by 2+ 2 by 2, or 12 by 2+2 by 2 connector that fits the main power connector on the motherboard, located next to the two ram slots. You'll find a 2 by 2 power port next to the processor slot. Seat both power power connections on the board.

On this board there are two power input only. The remainder of the power output goes to the hard drives or ssd, the optical drive, fans and heat sync, and possibly video card or other expansion cards. If you've installed legacy equipment (non-sata or IDE hardware) you'll have a large white four prong male plug that will fit tightly into a four prong female plug on the legacy equipment.

Where as if you're working purely with SATA devices, you'll have a flat power supply plug that is keyed (looks like an L) that fits into the smaller power supply plug found most often to the left of the main SATA port on the hardware. This plug will be larger than the SATA plug in width, but thinner in height.

The IDE port and 10 pin IDE port for the legacy hard drive and floppy drive on this motherboard sit next to the main power plug, while the SATA ports are the Two Blue L shaped plugs. The IDE port is blue while the 10 pin IDE port (for the floppy) is black with a lower left hand missing pin (keyed).

Connect your hardware to their respective ports.
Next locate the 8 pin plugs for the Case USB ports labeled USB1 and USB2, usually for the front. Most cases come with a front USB expansion port. This will attach to one of the 8 pin connection points on the motherboard. Some older cases come with firewire or extra usb expansion cables which can be attached to either USB pin plug. USB1 and USB2 ports are painted green on the motherboard.

You'll find on this motherboard four more plugs, one that looks like a very small black four pin port near your cmos battery, a four pin port that has no plastic around it labeled COM2 with a blue underlay painted on the board. A black painted 7 pin plug near the 4 pin black port and then another 4 pin plug point labeled speaker.

If you want to have a case speaker installed for use with beep codes (a set of CMOS codes that will beep if there is hardware failure) plug the speaker into this port (note: most new cases don't come with this speaker and to acquire one you should check with any second hand computer repair company). The 7 pin black pin plug is where you connect your power and reset button and power on light. The 4 pin port near the Cmos battery is for audio exchange. While most new SATA optical drives run audio through the SATA controller some legacy optical drives that are IDE need to be connected to the onboard audio using a 4 pin cable. COM2 is rarely used, but can be used for other controls, it works as a port extension. Many new motherboards don't have these because everything has gone USB and the old serial port standard isn't used anymore.

1) In the motherboard photo, all the way to the right side. View the Yellowish/Whitish connector, that has two columns of 12 socket holes.

This is where the 24-pin ATX main power cable plugs in.
In the motherboard layout illustration it is labeled - ATX1.

Here is a general example of this power cable, and respective connector on the motherboard,

Note that new Power Supply's, generally come with a 20+4-pin ATX main power cable.
This is so it can be used on the older computers that used a 20-pin ATX main power cable, and newer ones that need a 24-pin ATX main power cable.

Do not mix it's extra 4-pin power cable, with the 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable.

Note the Lock on the side/middle. It has a hook on the end. The hooked end goes over a Tab, on the motherboard's connector.
The Lock works on the same principle as a see-saw on a playground.

You squeeze the top near where the wires come in, and this brings the hooked end away from the Tab, on the motherboard connector.
With the top of the Lock still squeezed in, the power cable is then removed USING the connector. (NOT the wires)

When assured that the power cable is plugged in tightly, and correctly, the hooked end of the Lock will be over the Tab, on the motherboard connector.

2) Look to the left of the Processor socket, and halfway in-between it, and the outside edge of the motherboard.
Whitish 4-socket hole square connector.

This is where the 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable plugs in. Power for the Processor. Note that it also has a Lock, with a Tab on the motherboard connector.

That's it for the motherboard as for power cables that plug into it.

The rest of the power cables from the Power Supply, plug into the optical drive/s, harddrive, and card reader if used.

4) If your harddrive is an IDE (PATA) unit, it will use a 4-pin standard Peripheral power cable. Same with an optical drive that is an IDE (PATA) unit,

The computer case fan plugs into SYS_FAN1 connector, which is below the PWR1 connector. You may also have a computer case fan that uses the above power cable.

5) If your Harddrive, or optical drive/s are SATA, they will use a SATA power cable,

6) A Card Reader uses a power cable, that is also used for a Floppy Drive.

The front of your computer is the Front Panel.
The area of pins on the motherboard, that the main wires from the Front Panel go to, is the Front Panel header.

On the motherboard the Front Panel header is marked as PANEL1.
Scroll the page down, until you come to Motherboard layout.
Click on the + sign to the left of it.

Shows an illustration of the motherboard.
Bottom/Right corner is PANEL1. The black rectangle that is sitting vertically, in the motherboard photo.

Motherboard installed in computer case, the Front Panel header is two columns of contact pins.
FOUR on the Right side, FIVE on the Left side.

I don't know the actual numbering of the pins, so I'm going to number them myself;

Starting on the Left side at the Top, going down,
Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9.

Starting on the Right side at the Top, going down,
Pins 2, 4, 6, and 8. There is NO Pin 10.

A) Pins 1 and 3 are for the HarDDrive activity LED (Light)

How to find out what wires are what, in that Front Panel harness connector?

Follow the wires from the connector, up to the Front Panel.

Front Panel removed it is easier to see where the wires go.
You can follow the color code of the wires, and see which twisted pair go up to the Power On switch.

You can also see which ones go to the Power On LED.
(Light Emitting Diode, so it is a light)

Reset switch, (IF there is one), same thing.

The only pair of wires that will be left is the HDD LED wires.
HarDDrive activity LED.

The 9-pin plug will have to be CAREFULLY cut apart. Separate the wires, AND their metal terminals. (WATCH your fingers!)

Power front panel conectors on acer 915m08

Do not know what the Front Panel header pinout is.

(Front plastic part of computer tower is the Front Panel.
Area of contact pins on the motherboard, that the wires (Cables) from the Front Panel connect to, is the Front Panel header )

CAN see by clicking on - View full size image - that the Front Panel header is to the Top Left corner of the motherboard, by the CMOS battery.
(View of mobo is upside down, in relation to how it actually sits in the computer tower case)

Shows me it is just the normal two rows of contact pins used in a LOT of desktop computer mobo's. (MOtherBOard)

If it were I, I would use one of the LED lights connected to two wires, and touch across each two sets of pins.

Looking at the motherboard as it sits in the computer case, there is a row of pins on Top, and a row of pins on Bottom.

In your mind start at the LEFT side of the pins at the TOP.
Number them from Left to Right.
Example, Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9.

Now number the pins on the Bottom, from Left to Right,
Pins 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10.

Computer plugged into power, touch the two wires of the LED light, to Pins 1 and 2.
Computer doesn't start? (Power Supply turns on)
Go to the next set of pins.

I am willing to bet Pins 5 and 6 turn the Power Supply on.
No? Keep experimenting.

What will happen if you touch the WRONG pins?
N-O-T-H-I-N-G
You will NOT hurt the motherboard.

When you get to the correct pins, the Power Supply will turn on.
These pins are for the Power On switch.

Now go back through the pins with the Power Supply on, but DO NOT touch the pins that turned the Power Supply on.

When the LED light STAYS on, you have the pins for the Power On LED light.

If the LED light BLINKS, you have the HarDDrive activity LED light.

If Windows starts to load, and you touch the Restart switch pins, the computer will restart over again, and Windows will load again.

(IF this computer has a Restart switch. I do NOT use one, even for the older computers. Just press CTRL, ALT, and DELete keys at the SAME TIME, to restart the computer, or use the Task Manager option)

One pin left all by itself? That is for 5 Volts, and only used by the factory. Leave it unconnected.

There may also be a blank spot on the Front Panel header, where it looks like a pin is missing. This is the KEY pin, and is not used.
It is just to orient where the other pins are.

Worried about getting shocked?
There may be a small spark, as you connect the wires, I will gramnt you that.
But the voltage is 5 VOLTS DC.
In comparison two D cell flashlight batteries produce 3 VOLTS DC.

The harmful AC voltage is contained in the metal enclosure, of the Power Supply. Can't get you unless you pour water on it close up, or stick a metal rod through one of the ventilation holes, in the Power Supply enclosure.

This photo also shows the orientation (Direction), that the motherboard is sitting in a computer case.

To the very bottom right is the Front Panel header.

The front plastic panel of the computer is the Front Panel.

The area of pins on the motherboard that the cables, (Wires) from the Front Panel connect to, is the Front Panel header. ( F_PANEL )

The Front Panel header, is the black rectangular shaped plastic block, that is sitting vertically on the motherboard.

Has two columns of pins.
4 on the left side, 5 on the right side. Makes it look as though there is a pin missing, at the top left corner.

I'm going to number the pins.

Pins on the Left side starting at the Top, going down;

Pins 1, 3, 5, and 7.

Pins on the Right side starting at the Top, going down,

Pins 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10.


A) Pins 1 and 3 are for the Power On switch. (Power On button)

B) Pins 5 and 7 are for the Power On LED light.
Pin 7 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.
(If the LED light is dim, reverse the wires around)

C) Pins 4 and 6 are for a Reset switch, IF a Reset switch is used. (Reset button)

D) Pins 8 and 10 are for the HarDDrive activity LED light.
Pin 10 is for the Positive wire. ( + )
(If the HDD LED light is dim when operating, switch the wires around)

Pin 2 at the top Right is NOT used. (NC. Not Connected)

Here is the manual for your motherboard (since describing a diagram probably isn't very useful...)

You want to look at pages 27-35, they describe what you need to plug into the motherboard. Basically make sure you have connected:

1) 24-pin power cable (from power supply)
2) 4-pin power cable (for CPU from power supply)
3) Any case fans with 3/4 pin connectors.
3) hard drives (SATA or IDE)
4) USB front panel ports
5) Audio front panel ports
6) Case plugs (power LED, hdd LED, power switch, and reset switch).

USB power connector missing


The USB connections are in groups of 4 and 5 pins in parallel, with one pin missing at one end. The connector goes on, with its first pin(normally red) at the end that has both pins.

Model name BLUFORD. E139765 motherboard. I need J16 pin layout for the power switch, reset switch, etc. Dell is not very helpful with this paticular board for some reason. Thank You for any info. DW


This is what I found after extensive searching,

Looks pretty lame, huh? I found this on Dell's Community Forum.
I gather, this motherboard was used in the Dell Dimension 2350.

Looking, at what Dell has for the layout of the Dimension 2350 motherboard, there are 20 pins in the J16 header, just like he has crudely shown above. I don't see one missing in the corner, though. Of course, the link above is a crude example from Dell.

This person stated it was for the J24 header on the motherboard. Also stated that it was the Front Panel I/O header. (At least that's what was stated) I believe he was confused with the Control Panel header J24. Hopefully it is for the J16 Front Panel I/O header, as it has the Power On switch, HDD activity LED, Power LED, and so on.

Indications are that the O's represent the pins. There was a statement of taking -> Note, that there is a missing pin in the upper corner, and this orients the connector view, Orients, how you are looking at the connector. Only you will know for sure. I don't have this motherboard in front of me. Dell ISN'T giving ANY info out.

This person had the Bluford E139765 motherboard, in a Dell Dimension 2350.

The statement was also made, that there is a Brown jumper wire that connects the two CON CNT pins together, but didn't know if this jumper is required, as this person is putting this motherboard, into an aftermarket computer case. (?)

Solution?
What I would do.
I would have the power supply plugged in. I would use an LED lamp, with two wire leads attached to it. Leads of about two inches long, or more. (Borrow one out of the Front Panel, or from another parts computer?)

Twist the ends of the lead wires tightly. I would then touch the leads to two pins. Should they be power Out pins, (HDD activity lamp pins. Power LED pins, and so on), the light will light up, and not short out the two pins touched.

(If the LED light doesn't light up, no biggie. It just means the wires need to be reversed. Bear this in mind, when you go to hook the LED's up)

When the two pins for the Power On is found, the computer will turn on.

Judging by the crude diagram the missing pin is on the upper right.
Only you will know for sure, as the J16 header should have a flat place in one corner, where a pin would go. NO pin.

If so, this is what I see.

Processor to the left, PCI slots to the right, J16 header on the right, above the PCI slots. The header goes along the edge of the motherboard, lengthwise.

I'll number the pins like this.
Starting at the Top Left, and going down the Left side.
Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, and 19.

Starting at the Top Right, and going down the Right side.
NO pin, (Would have been Pin 2),
Pins 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, and 20

Pins 3 and 4 are for the Power LED. (Confusion here)

Pins 5 and 6 are for the harddrive activity LED. PIn 6 is for the + wire/

NO connection to Pins 7, 8, 9, and 10

Pins 11 and 12 are for the Power LED.
(Which ones to use? Pins 11 and 12, or Pins 3 and 4? I leave it up to you to test as the computer is on, and see)

NO connection to Pins 13 and 14

Pins 15 and 16 are for the Power On switch.

NO connection to Pins 17 and 18.

Pins 19 and 20 are for that jumper wire he mentioned. I would try it without it. If the computer doesn't come on, or something doesn't work, like the harddrive for example, I would unplug the computer from power, then attach this jumper. Plug in, and see if everything works.
