Re: DVD will not eject, display shows"read".tried...
After removing the cover on the player, I rotated the gears manually watching as the locking arms retracted. Once I heard a click ,the drawer unlocked and I opened it and removed the dvd. I replaced the cover and it's good as new!

Try this, look for a small hole on the front of the unit.Use a pin and press in to see if it opens, ejects the disk .If no hole try seeing if you can press ,lift, pull at the door/slot while pressing the open door/eject either on the unit or with the remote control. It sounds like you may have a bad CD/DVD (copy) that the unit is trying to read/load but can't. keep trying to eject CD/DVD if this doesn't work unplug unit for 5 minutes, try open door again do press and hold open repeatedly I know it's frustrating but it just may eject.Don't use this recorder for playback of DVD buy a $30 DVD player the cheaper the better they play anything.GOOD LUCK
I had the same problem like this on my machine. The best way to fix it is to turn the machine off completely and hold on the eject button then turn the power on. You want the first thing the player does is to eject the disk without trying to read it first.
I hope it works let me know if it doesn't and i'll try and recreate the problem on my player and see what i can do to get the disk out.
The last resort is to manually take the disk out but lets cross that bridge if my suggestion above doesn't work.
I think your DVD player is trying to read the disk, but it can't. Try unplugging the unit. Holding down the eject button and plugging it back in. After it begins to to power up you can release the eject button. What your wanting to do is to get it to eject before it tries to read the disk. Good luck.
Don't know if this will work for you, but I unplugged the player then plugged it back in again whlie holding down the power button. The player did not power up until I released the power button and pressed it again. That did it.
You can press the eject button on the drive behind the front panel or connect the ribbon cable from the drive to a PC to eject it. More instructions are on my website here:
